Commercial Analyst

We are focused on reducing the carbon emissions of our business, while also enabling the reduction of carbon emissions in the broader supply chain to support the National targets.About the roleReporting to the Commercial Solutions Manager, the Commercial Analyst uses financial models to assess the financial feasibility of rail haulage contracts. This role coordinates receiving the inputs into the financial model from various stakeholders and commercial solution design process including partnering with the business development team to develop cost competitive commercial solutions for customers. The role has input into the structuring of deals including the commercial terms for the rail haulage contracts.Key responsibilities include:
  • Partner with the Key Account Managers within Pacific National's operational business units to deliver industry best practice financial modelling and analysis to support decision making.
  • Contribute to the preparation of investment decision papers for submission to investment committees.
  • Assess market pricing, alternative pricing structures and customer next best alternative.
  • Assist to deliver the optimal commercial proposition and mitigate downside risk by drawing on the expertise of all appropriate internal stakeholders.
  • Act as the custodian of the standard deal assessment financial model, working closely with the Finance team to develop assumptions for the standard financial model.
  • Conduct post investment review of executed contracts.
About YouThe successful candidate will enjoy financial modelling and possess the ability to coordinate internal commercial discussions including terms and structures to create highest value and mitigate risk. Partnering with various teams and stakeholders at all levels, the successful candidate will demonstrate a genuine interest in understanding the operations and business issues of Pacific National that underlie a given investment opportunity being modelled and/or assessed.Additionally, you will also possess:
  • A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance or relevant experience
  • CPA or CA qualifications would be advantageous
  • Strong credentials and demonstrated experience in financial modelling and in particular, discounted cash flow analysis including the modelling of upfront capital investments.
  • Experience within capital intensive or heavy infrastructure-based organisations is highly regarded, as is experience in project, infrastructure, or property (development) finance.
  • Strong analytical, communication, business partnering and problem-solving skills.
