We leverage our diversity to be better and build capability for now and future generations.About the roleWe are looking for a Mine Planning Engineer to become part of a multidisciplinary team involved in complex works, at our Ranger Rehabilitation Project.This role is a great opportunity for a self-motivated individual with strong communication skills to work both individually and collaboratively in a team-based environment.Reporting to the Superintendent – Engineering, you will be responsible for:
  • Progressing long-term feasibility plans into medium- and short-term plans.
  • Utilising Mine Planning and scheduling tools to create optimal mine rehabilitation designs and schedules.
  • Maintaining the knowledge base of stockpiles, grades & block models, voids, and other relevant spatial information via use of industry best practice methods and tools.
  • Evaluating the success of mining plans through effective reconciliation and mineral accounting.
  • Effectively communicating monthly and quarterly mine plans to several stakeholder groups at varying level of detail via animations, presentations, written methods, and face to face conversations.
  • Working closely with engineering service providers, civil engineer of record, and civil field engineers to deliver capping of mined out pits and landforms.
  • Working closely with the project execution team to support evaluation of contractor plans.
The role has a 5/2/4/3 fortnight roster and will be Bus In Bus Out (BIBO) between Darwin and Jabiru.About youTo be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related degree.
  • Experience in coordinating medium to long term planning activities.
  • Previous experience with the use of industry standard Mine Planning software, i.e. Maptek suite, Deswik suite and/or RPM Global OPMS including both productivity and cost modelling.
  • 3+ years’ experience working in a large open pit mine environment as a medium- or short-term mine planner or similar role.
  • Experience working in mining operational or technical teams, leading the development or implementation of mine plans.
  • Safety conscious approach to work and be self-motivated to deliver results.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with employees at all levels of the organisation.
  • A project mindset.

Who we areEnergy Resources of Australia Ltd (ERA) is a publicly listed company with Rio Tinto as its major shareholder. ERA, established in 1979, previously mined and produced uranium oxide from its Ranger mine in the beautiful and rugged Alligator Rivers area of the Northern Territory. The Ranger mine is located on Aboriginal land, surrounded by, but currently separate from, Kakadu National Park.ERA’s production operations on the Ranger Project Area ceased in January 2021, with the major focus now shifting to the comprehensive world-class rehabilitation of the Ranger mine that will eventually allow it to be incorporated back into the Kakadu National Park should the Traditional Owners and the Commonwealth Government wish. The Ranger Rehabilitation Project is the largest project of its kind in Australia and possibly the world. It is unique in that it is rehabilitating land in one of the world’s most culturally and environmentally sensitive locations, surrounded by the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park on the land of the Mirarr Traditional Owners, located three hours southeast of Darwin.Closing date: 8th of April 2024
