About the role:
You will support effective engagement with employees, communities, government and external stakeholders and positively influence the role and recognition of Council. This will be achieved through effective strategic communication, community consultation, regular written and visual communications, major publications and the coordination of communications surrounding community activities, initiatives, festivals and events.
To be successful in this role, you will possess the following:
- Excellent verbal, written communication, negotiation, organisational, planning and time management skills.
- Extensive experience and skills in public relations and developing strategic communication plans.
- Excellent knowledge of the principles of effective communication, public relations and promotion and media operations.
- Highly developed communication skills, including the ability to tailor messages and communication strategies to a diverse target audience, and communicate complex and sensitive issues in plain language and visual context.
- Strong commitment to customer service, professionalism, community, enthusiasm and motivation and alignment with Councils core values.
- Effective project management skills.
- Ability to successfully engage with multiple stakeholders at all levels of varying diversity and industry.
- Demonstrated proficiency in written communication and advanced Microsoft Office capability, advanced design proficiency including: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat DC and web management software.
- Ability to work flexible hours and travel in light aircraft and/or unsealed roads to remote communities.
- Current NT C Class Driver’s License.
It would be desirable if you also possessed:
- Knowledge of the East Arnhem Land region and its people, Yolngu Matha and Anindilyakwan languages and culture, or a commitment to learn.
- Previous experience living and/or working in remote communities.
- Demonstrated high level of cross-cultural awareness to ensure effective participation in a multi-cultural workplace.
The preferred applicant will be required to undergo a Criminal History Check and obtain a Working with Children Clearance. Criminal history will not exclude an applicant unless it is relevant to the position.

What you'll get in return:
Full time permanent position.
Level 7 – Salary $95,275 - $101,077 (excluding super and locality allowance) with annual wage increase opportunities built into our EBA.
You will also benefit from annual leave with 17.5% leave loading.
