An opportunity is available to work at the Consulate General of Ireland, Sydney. The position is offered initially on a fixed-term basis of one year, and may be reviewed thereafter. The position is full-time working five days per week from Monday to Friday, with occasional out-of-hour requirements.
Roles and Responsibilities:The Consulate represents Ireland’s interests in New South Wales. This role will support public and economic diplomacy campaigns to raise awareness of Ireland. In addition, it will provide back-up support for the provision of consular services.
This is a public-facing role that requires regular interaction with Consulate stakeholders. The successful candidate will:
- Prepare and implement communications campaigns for the Consulate;
- Coordinate and execute events at Consulate and externally (including out of hours);
- Support the Consul General and Deputy Consul General with research;
- Provide professional and helpful consular services and assistance (incl. Duty Officer);
- Back-up support for passport service.

Essential Requirements - candidates must be able to demonstrate:- Tertiary qualification in marketing/communication or related discipline, e.g public relations;
- Candidates must have at least 12 months relevant professional experience in a similar role (communications/event management);
- Fluency in English (native speaker level) is essential;
- Working knowledge of social media and web site management - previous experience of planning and executing campaigns on social media platforms;
- Strong attention to detail and excellent written communication skills;
- Flexibility and ability to work within a team and autonomously;
- The candidate should provide examples of being solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering results, including by adapting approach if necessary;
- The candidate must demonstrate using work based examples of providing excellent interpersonal skills, being persuasive, working in a team but also dealing effectively with people in external organisations;
- The successful candidate must have a legal entitlement to live and work in Australia prior to recruitment. Applicants must have the right to work in Australia and be able to complete an initial contract duration of 1 year. The Consulate is not in a position to sponsor a visa application.
- A good understanding of the role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Consulate;
- The successful applicant will work alongside other local employees of the Consulate, and will report directly to the diplomatic staff in the Mission. Previous experience in a diplomatic mission is desirable, but not essential.
- The successful candidate will be hired on a fixed-term contractual basis and will be based at the Consulate General of Ireland, Sydney.
- Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week, standard office hours from 9am - 1pm / 2pm – 5pm
- Due to the nature of this role, the successful candidate will work early morning and evening events and provide occasional weekend cover. Time in lieu is granted.
- Annual Leave entitlement 22 days per annum.
- The salary for the position is $60,347.69 AUD per annum with annual incremental increases upon completion of a successful performance review. Salary is paid by electronic transfer, therefore a bank account is necessary. In addition to the salary, the Consulate will pay superannuation into a scheme of your choice.

Selection Process:Depending on the number of applications received, a short-listing of candidates to be called for a competency-based interview may be undertaken based on the Essential Requirements above;

- A panel may be set up depending on the calibre of candidates.
