Upper Lachlan Shire Council had a great opportunity for a Communications Officer to join our dedicated team in the picturesque Southern Tablelands, NSW.

Your Role
As a vital member of our team, your role will be both diverse and impactful. You will be responsible for developing and implementing media and communication strategies that effectively promote Council projects, activities, priorities, and services to the community. Your work will ensure that our messages are conveyed clearly and effectively, fostering strong relationships with local media outlets, businesses, and government departments.
Key responsibilities include creating media releases, speeches, and associated photographs, maintaining key business relationships, and producing a variety of written materials such as newsletters, flyers, reports, and digital assets. You will also play a crucial role in facilitating media presence at Council events and functions, conducting research, and preparing detailed reports, plans, and strategies.
Your professional conduct, knowledge, and skills will be pivotal in driving our success and maintaining a safe working environment.
About You:
Essential Criteria:
- A degree in communication, public relations, or a related discipline, with contemporary experience in a similar role; or substantial contemporary experience in a similar role, supported by ongoing professional development.
- Proven ability to develop and deliver effective media and communication strategies.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills, including negotiation, research, information analysis, and report writing.
- Experience in developing media releases, speeches, and producing written materials for various formats.
- Demonstrated ability to foster and maintain key business relationships.
- Excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desirable Criteria:
- A background in local government is ideal but not essential.
- Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms.
