  • ​Full-time​, ​Fixed-Term Position for 12 Months​ 

  • Salary HEW 3 + 17% Superannuation and Flexible Working Arrangements 

  • Based at the ​Melbourne CBD​ campus, ​but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University​ 

About The Position 

 
The Communications Assistant supports the University Communications team in promoting and strengthening the RMIT University brand. This role will suit someone who is organised, eager to learn, can juggle multiple tasks and is a confident writer.

This fixed-term position is designed to provide relevant work experience for graduates and those early in their professional development aspiring to a career in external communications. 

The successful applicant will have a range of responsibilities, which may include: 

  • Creating content in a range of software programs 

  • Maintaining a calendar of communications across channels, including websites and social media

  • Completing daily media monitoring

  • Website publishing support 

  • Preparing media and communication reports 

  • Participating in and contributing to regular editorial meetings 

  • Assisting with general communications tasks of the unit, and, under mentorship, undertaking media, social media and multimedia work. 

To be successful in this position, you’ll have: 

  • Understanding and knowledge of corporate and external communications. 

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills  

  • Strong news writing skills and ability to write and edit for different audiences, styles and editorial requirements. 

  • Proven commitment to collaboration, teamwork and customer service. 

  • High-level computer and typing skills and experience using Word, Excel, Google Docs and databases. 

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly InDesign, Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects), multimedia creation software (e.g., Final Cut Pro), Mail Chimp, and social media will be an advantage. 

Please Note: Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children and National Police Check.
