The Company

Robert Half are partnering with an established Membership Body with 5000+ members in Victoria and several million members worldwide. This organisation prides themselves on traditional values and provides a range of self-development, education and community-based services across the state. As a Company Accountant, you will be working closely with the CFO to maintain the financial health of the organisation.

The Role

Your responsibilities as Company Accountant will include providing technical accounting support, managing investment accounting, maintaining fixed assets records, budgeting and forecasting, internal management accounting, preparation of annual financial accounts, coordinating year-end audit, payroll processing, BAS reporting, committee secretariat services, stakeholder management, and assisting in special projects.

Main responsibilities of the role include but not limited to:

• Application of Financial Accounting Standards:
• Provide technical accounting support in compliance with accounting standards and policies.
• Investment Accounting:
• Reconcile monthly dividend income to budget and report variances.
• Maintain equity register for all portfolio movements and reconcile against external investment advisers' reports.
• Prepare annual reconciliation to tax accountants for ITR purposes.
• Fixed Assets Accounting:
• Maintain and update the fixed asset register, including properties.
• Account for depreciation.
• Budgeting and Forecasting:
• Assist in preparing the annual budget and regular forecasts.
• Internal Management Accounting and Reporting:
• Prepare monthly internal financial reports.
• Analyze and update monthly cash flow forecasts.
• Provide detailed commentary on P&L monthly variances to budget/forecast.
• Prepare financial risk register updates.
• Generate monthly finance reports and dashboard reports.
• Prepare detailed debtors reports with commentary.
• Preparation of Annual Financial Accounts:
• Support the Finance & Business Support Manager in preparing year-end financial accounts for audit.
• Coordinating Year-End Audit:
• Collaboratively assist auditors during the financial year audit.
• Payroll and Employee Entitlements:
• Collaborate with payroll service provider to process monthly staff payrolls, employee entitlements, payroll tax, and PAYG tax.
• BAS Reporting and Reporting to External Bodies:
• Prepare and submit the BAS to the ATO.
• Complete regular reporting obligations to external bodies (e.g., quarterly financial reporting to the Australian Bureau of Statistics).
• Stakeholder Management:
• Management of two direct reports (AP and AR)
• Manage and address member queries.

Your Profile

You will be a CPA/CA qualified accounting professional and will have held a similar role as Company Accountant/Finance Manager in a small to medium sized company. Previous experience in a not-for-profit or membership-based environment would be highly regarded. Previous exposure to property accounting would also be advantageous for the role. You will have fantastic communication skills and have the ability to work pro-actively and independently in a small team environment.
