ORGANISATION DESCRIPTION AND MISSION

Water Polo Western Australia Incorporated (WPWAI) is the officially recognised State Sporting Association for the sport of Water Polo in Western Australia, and a member of Water Polo Australia. WPWAI’s mission is to advance Water Polo to make it WA’s most enjoyable team sport.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Competition Coordinator is responsible for leading the effective and efficient administrative and operational support necessary to deliver the \competition framework including the Junior & Senior State League competitions and events.  A key function of this role includes supporting the success of the WA State Country Championships.

Importantly this role provides strategic coordination of administrative support towards agreed elements of the WA Performance Program as well as logistical management of WA State Teams.

THIS POSITION HAS THE FOLLOWING DIRECT REPORTS:

Seasonal, casual competition staff

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the Senior State League and Junior State League competitions
  • Engage with clubs and stakeholders for seasonal reviews; competition grading; fixtures and calendar planning
  • Coordinate and administer the Competition Advisory Group (CAG)
  • Liaise with Officials Advisory Group (OAG) to oversee management of WPWA officials
  • Liaise with WPWA Officials Coordinators for appointment of competition referees and officials.
  • Coordinate pool bookings necessary to deliver WPWA competitions
  • Support the team to identify and coordinate relevant and appropriate officials education.
  • Identify opportunities for Coach education and development
  • Coordinate the selection and management of WA State Teams, including appointment of State Team Coaches and Managers, and athletes attending National events, such as National State Championships (U19, U17, U15). 
  • Liaise with the Regional Advisory Group (RAG) to support country competition delivery and development 

KEY DUTIES:

  • Lead the planning, delivery, management, and evaluation of all WPWA Competitions.
  • Ensure regular and appropriate communications regarding WPWA Competitions to all stakeholders.
  • Provide competition support to regional associations, where necessary 
  • Manage pool bookings and associated budgets.
  • Oversee competition structures of regional and metro events.
  • Compile an annual competition calendar in consultation with all stakeholders.
  • Manage the online competition management system (Revolutionise Sport)
  • Oversee all competition results, adherence to competition rules and structures.
  • Oversee all competition infringements including forfeits and fines
  • Ensure the State and National requirements of game and player management are delivered, including implementation of the Water Polo Australia National Sanctioning Policy.
  • Allocate referees and officials for fixtured games in collaboration with Officials and Referee Coordinators.
  • Ensure end of month referee payments are recorded and processed.
  • Support the delivery of School Sport WA, PSA and IGSSA competitions.

RELATED DUTIES 

  • Organise and promote Water Polo WA coach and officials’ professional development opportunities. 
  • Assist with the implementation of the Water Polo WA Participation Growth Plan through the delivery of new competitions or participation experiences. 
  • Assist the team with planning and delivery of other events, development opportunities or other requirements of the Association when requested by the CEO. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO UNDERTAKE THE POSITION: 

Essential

  • Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritise tasks. 
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Demonstrated project management and program delivery skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and work well in a small team. 
  • Sound knowledge of community sport competition and environments. 
  • Passion for sport.
  • Proficient in Microsoft word & excel.
  • Demonstrated experience working with volunteers in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Proven experience in establishing and managing diverse relationships within Metropolitan and Regional settings.
  • Ability to identify priorities, issues, and potential problems by integrating information from different sources and drawing logical inferences and valid interpretations from the data.
  • Ability to recognise a problem, identify possible causes, generate alternative solutions
  • Demonstrated experience in managing conflicts and disputes resolution and following complaints and grievance procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively towards shared outcomes. 
  • Flexible in working out-of-business hours and weekends. 
  • Adhere to privacy and confidentiality procedures as set by Water Polo WA.
  • A current C class WA driver’s license and access to own vehicle for transport.
  • A current valid WA Working with Children Check.

Desirable:

  • Competition and elite sport management experience.
  • Experience with database management and data analysis. 
  • Understanding of the sport of Water Polo. 
  • Relevant sport management qualifications.
  • Experience with competition and registration management systems. 
  • Experience in developing and executing website/social media content.
