Job description

The Competition Officer supports the General Manager of Pathways in the strategic development and delivery of competitions and events.

The role will drive the strategic direction of the Athletics West Strategic Plan in relation to competitions and events to promote participation in the sport of athletics.  The role will also coordinate and administer a range of competition and events including, local, State and in and out of stadia competition administration.

The Competition Officer is responsible for all administrative requirements for competitions and member enquiries, along with adherence to selection policies for state team selections. The Competition Officer is responsible for ensuring all competitions and events, which are administered by Athletics West are in accordance with the relevant constitution, policies and rules.

The Competition Officer must also ensure that competitions and are administrated with the highest degree of integrity, fairness, transparency and common sense. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Pathways team across the sport, ensuring that all competitions and events are administered consistently with the development of the sport across Australia. 
  • Developing and delivering on a well-defined operational plan with key milestones clearly established.
  • Supporting the General Manager, Pathways and Pathways Development Coordinator to ensure that Athletics West has a capable, high performing competition administration system.
  • Other duties as directed by the General Manager of Pathways or Pathways Development Coordinator.

Key Duties

  • Plan, monitor and manage the implementation of competitions and events for athletes, coaches and officials in Western Australia across the entire season.
  • In coordination with the Pathways team, support pathways for volunteers in the sport.
  • Work in partnership with other key staff and volunteers as required.
  • Plan, coordinate, manage and implement the delivery of Athletics West competitions and events in conjunction with the Pathways team and relevant staff. 
  • Maintain Athletics West State Records in accordance with the Athletics West State Records procedures.
  • Adhere to department budgets including financial planning and reporting of key projects.
  • Support the General Manager, Pathways in the development and delivery of the strategic direction of the organisation.
  • Represent Athletics West at sport and industry events and functions as required from time to time.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated experience or transferable skills in the development and delivery of competitions and/or events.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage and prioritise tasks.
  • Well-developed planning and time management skills 
  • Ability to resolve conflicts independently.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the volunteer workforce and an ability to work within the constraints caused by the nature of that workforce.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to build relationships and manage stakeholders.
  • Preparedness to be flexible in respect to work hours.
  • Working with Children Check.
  • National Police Certificate.
  • A current “C” class WA driver’s license.

Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of the sport of athletics.
  • Relevant qualification in sports management, recreation or education.

Salary 

A salary package of $50,000 to $60,000 plus superannuation will be negotiated with the successful applicant depending on the level of experience.
