What is Connected Beginnings?

Connected Beginnings is an initiative to support the integration and strengthening of services for early childhood, maternal and child health, and family support to assist in school readiness and educational outcomes in Indigenous children. As the backbone organisation, Connected Beginnings employees will drive this initiative to the specific needs of the Katherine region.

Brief Summary of role:

To support the implementation of the Connected Beginnings initiative. This includes, implementing, and tracking the effectiveness of community change activities and developing strategies to use the community’s voice to inform decision making. The position will support staff in the delivery of Connected Beginnings projects. They will contribute to organisational strategy, measurement and evaluation and facilitation of meetings, workshops and other capacity building activities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high level strategic advice and executive support to the Director of community engagement in the development of policy and project strategy that assists to achieve key objectives of the Connected Beginnings Activity Plan.

• Work with community members, families, and delivery agencies to meet the needs of children at risk of developmental vulnerability in Katherine by promoting a whole of community collaborative approach which is underpinned by the principles of collective impact and uses a culturally safe and inclusive approach.

• Support the Board and community to identify and implement collaborative strategies, actions and projects that are expected to have the biggest possible community impact for children.

• Develop an understanding, measurement, and evaluation framework to demonstrate outcomes.

• Work with stakeholders to support culturally appropriate practice in the delivery of an integrated projects across health, education and family services.

• Establish and maintain close working relationships and networks with Aboriginal Community Controlled organisations and other key Government and non-Government organisations as key partners to support the implementation of the Connected Beginnings projects.

• Establish, maintain and support the development of effective collaborative partnerships and alliances across the agency and with key non-government stakeholders to ensure efficient and effective engagement on project and policy related matters.

• Monitor, evaluate and report on the progress and outcomes of projects in agreed formats to ensure targets are met and resources are used effectively.

• Prepare concise reports and general correspondence in a timely manner for distribution to internal and external stakeholders.

• Provide support to a range of Connected Beginnings projects to ensure deliverables are achieved.

Renumeration Package:

Employment Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $100,000 - $119,000 per annum (pro-rata)

Entitlements/Benefits: 6 Weeks Annual Leave + 2 Weeks Sick Leave + 2 Weeks Ancillary Leave + 1 RDO per Month

Location: Kalano’s Big Rivers Child & Family Centre, Katherine NT

Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week – 7.5 hours per day [Monday to Friday | 08:00am – 4:30pm]

The successful applicant should posses the following attributes, skills and competencies;

• Tertiary qualifications and/or significant experience in education, community development, communications, change management, social services, health, business, or related area, and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development

• Demonstrated experience in project management and team leadership; to design, implement, manage and monitor using a data driven approach

• Understanding of children’s services, funding and gaps in current service delivery environment

• Existing relationships with a range of stakeholders in the local or regional area

• Experience in managing budgets

• Proven ability to build capacity and thinks strategically at organisational and systemic level over multi-year horizons

• A demonstrated capacity to lead and work in a highly functional team environment

• High level interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills and the ability to resolve conflict

• Proven experience in community led change, working across difference and building relationships with a broad range of stakeholders

• An understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal communities, particularly rural and remote areas, in a way that fosters mutual respect

• Ability to generate concise and accurate reports, briefing papers and other documentation

• Valid NT Drivers Licence, Valid Ochre Card and willingness to undergo a National Police Check
