The Organisation
You will be working in a 236-bed regional hospital that services 10 rural hospitals and multi-purpose health facilities across the region. The Health Service is embarking on an exciting period of growth with a $250m redevelopment of the base hospital to provide an additional 112 inpatient beds and an expansion of outpatient and support services.
Clinicians working here enjoy a challenging and rewarding clinical case mix that includes busy inpatient and outpatient general medicine, paediatrics, surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics & gynaecology and mental health services. These core inpatient services are well integrated with active emergency medicine, anaesthetic and intensive care departments and supported by a wide range of allied health services.
The Department of Medicine is a vibrant, collaborative, and supportive workplace. You will be part of a team comprising physicians with different subspecialties (including endocrinology, respiratory, infectious disease, oncology, neurology, nephrology, acute medicine etc) working in close partnership with cardiology (who provide 24/7 Primary PCI service), emergency medicine (FACEM lead) and intensive care (CICM led).
The Job
As a Consultant General & Respiratory Medicine, your role will be comprised of 0.5FTE General Medicine and 0.5FTE subspecialty duties on an alternating fortnightly basis
As a Consultant in General Medicine, you will rotate through the acute assessment unit and general medicine teams as well as participate in the on-call and weekend roster
As a Consultant in Respiratory medicine, you will be involved in inpatient consultation with medical patients, outpatient specialty clinics and relevant procedural lists (bronchoscopy etc)
You will work closely with 2 other respiratory physicians a registrar and several respiratory nurses
Consultants work with a clinical case mix that is broad, challenging and professionally satisfying
The position is responsible for assisting the Director in the provision of high-quality clinical services as part of the Department of Medicine, education of Medical Staff and Students, Allied Health, interested Community Groups and Nursing Staff
The position will involve active participation in patient safety, audit, research, and service planning activities
You will be supported by a full team of junior doctors including BPTs, PHOs, RMOs and Interns
