About Monash Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery is a dynamic and growing field of surgery incorporating both open and minimally invasive approaches such as endovascular treatments. The Monash Health service makes a major impact to the health and welfare of many patients across the life continuum. Development of innovative techniques in cerebrovascular and spinal neurosurgery have meant high quality outcomes can be obtained with reduced complications and length of stays. The neurosurgery unit practices with a core of general neurosurgery combined with an intermediate level of sub-specialisation. Many of the complex cases within the following sub-specialty areas are performed by a selected surgeon or a limited number of surgeons, appropriately trained and credentialed. The Unit also has a dedicated research portfolio and provides support and supervision to candidates wishing to complete a higher degree. Multiple research projects are completed under its banner each year leading to publications and presentations.

About the Role

To support and assist the Director of the Neurosurgery Unit, Monash Health in the provision of high quality Neurosurgery Services at MMC at Clayton, and possibly at Dandenong and Casey sites, consistent with the Monash Health values.

  • Provide clinical leadership through active involvement in patient care.
  • Be available to medical colleagues for consultation and liaison as appropriate regarding patient care.
  • Be immediately available for urgent consultation and assistance in resuscitation and subsequent management of critically ill or injured patients, when on-call.
  • Support education, training & supervision (both undergraduate and postgraduate) roles in the Neurosurgery Unit, Monash Health.
  • Support the Neurosurgery Unit's outreach services within Monash Health.
  • Contribute to ongoing service improvement and clinical and workforce innovation to ensure Monash Health provides high quality accessible Neurosurgery Services within allocated resources and meets the needs of Monash Health patients.
  • participate in in academic research in their areas of specific interest areas with the aim of at least one peer review publication per year.

What you need:

  • Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Appropriate health professional tertiary qualifications - Fellow of RACS
  • Evidence of Covid Vaccine
  • Eligibility for CCINR Registration (two years of endovascular training)
  • The incumbent must complete the Credentialing and Scope of Practice process prior to appointment and commencement.  This will be reviewed on a regular basis.
