Wood is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join our Vibration Dynamic & Noise team based in Perth, Melbourne, or Brisbane offices. Our ideal candidate will join a team of engineering specialists working within the field of engineering dynamics specifically focusing on Static Equipment Systems including piping and machinery structures.

This role is mostly office based but the candidate should be willing to perform site work occasionally. You will showcase your technical excellence in Finite-element Analysis (FEA), reviewing data and resolving the causes and effects of vibration in Static Equipment and structures. Working collaboratively to provide engineering solutions improving the integrity and performance of facilities across our global client base. This is a practical consulting role where you will:

  • Assist with investigations and provide high quality technical input for relevant plant failures, trouble-shooting projects or new design projects
  • Have a keen eye for detail and the ability to quickly interpret key client evidence
  • Prepare written reports of investigation findings and recommend methods for rectification
  • Maintain and develop new client relationships, responding to queries and working together to connect and cooperate
  • Develop systems and processes for continuous improvement
  • Provide engineering solutions within a customer focused and service oriented framework

Our ideal candidate will have experience that includes:

  • A strong technical grasp and fundamental understanding of the impact of vibration throughout your previous work experiences
  • Familiarity with piping vibration or structural dynamics
  • Familiarity with process and piping drawings such as P&IDs and isometrics
  • Familiarity with performing Finite Element Analysis aimed at solving vibration or dynamic issue
  • Familiarity in conducting field-based troubleshooting work and flexibility to take on site travel to client locations throughout Australia when required

To be considered for this role we would ideally like to attract candidates with at least three years industry experience. We are keen to connect with applicants who have a diverse range of skills including:

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3-5 years of relevant engineering experience ideally in a consultancy focussed organization, however graduates or those with less experience are encouraged to apply
  • Keen eye for detail and critical thinking ability to interpret technical information quickly to enable building models and analyzing data
  • Strong English literacy and report writing skills are a key part of this role
  • Desirable experience includes: dynamic stress and fatigue analysis, acoustic and flow induced studies, CFD, FEA, pipe stress analysis, pulsation analysis / control, structural dynamics / troubleshooting
  • An interest in vibration, structural-dynamic reliability and integrity.
  • Some familiarity with commercial software such as ANSYS, FEMAP, CAESAR II, AutoCAD, SolidWorks would be ideal
  • Ability to work within project budget, schedule and resource constraints
