This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing, with the employment type to be determined in negotiation with the preferred candidate and the PM&C delegate.
Where a non-ongoing specified term is offered, this would be for an initial period of up to 12 months, with possibility of extension up to a maximum period of two years.
A non-ongoing offer may result in conversion to an ongoing offer of employment, however this must occur within 18 months from the opening date of this advertisement.

Australian Government Consulting (AGC) is a new Australian Public Service (APS) initiative to deliver strategic management consultancy projects in-house. Situated within the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, we work in partnership with APS agencies on a wide range of high-profile issues that make a real difference to the wellbeing of Australians.

What you’ll do
We are looking for exceptionally talented consultants who are inspired by our mission to deliver public impact.
You will work with a high-performing team to deliver management consultancy projects for Australian Public Service clients.
Consultant – APS 6
As a Consultant, you will:
  • Apply AGC’s consulting methodologies to deliver high quality projects.
  • Skilfully engage with diverse stakeholders inside and outside of government – from senior officials to community leaders.
  • Apply strong critical and strategic thinking and an entrepreneurial mind-set.
  • Apply structured problem solving techniques to policy and organisational challenges, facilitate workshops and interviews, analyse data and produce meaningful reports
  • Analyse key resources to generate meaningful insights and recommendations for clients.
Senior Consultant – EL1
As a Senior Consultant, you will:
  • Deliver end-to-end high quality strategic consulting projects that meet client needs, with a focus on providing strategic advice or building high-performing government agencies.
  • Manage client engagements, and skilfully engage with key stakeholders to influence outcomes.
  • Provide thought leadership across AGC, lending your expertise to other project teams and proposing innovative ideas and solutions to drive AGC forward.
  • Apply strong critical and strategic thinking and an entrepreneurial mind-set.
  • Apply structured problem solving techniques to policy and organisational challenges, facilitate workshops and interviews, analyse data and produce meaningful reports
  • Apply a rigorous, analytical approach to get across information quickly and generate meaningful insights.
  • Manage and mentor AGC staff in a positive and uplifting manner, contributing to AGC’s culture and capability.

Eligibility
  • Under section 22(8) of the
, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the APS unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing. At PM&C to be eligible for this position you should be an Australian Citizen at the closing date of application, unless exceptional circumstances apply. * The successful candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (Protected) level security clearance, or hold a current security clearance of an appropriate level.
  • The successful candidate will be assessed through our pre-employment screening checks, such as an Australian Criminal History Check, and will normally be subject to a six-month probation period if new to the APS or has not yet completed their probation period elsewhere in the APS.
