Austin Health's Mental Health Division incorporates a number of specialities and services across community and bed-based services, with inpatient beds located on all three campuses. The Division provides catchment-based area mental health services, in addition to a number of regional and state-wide specialty services.

CONSULTATION LIAISON PSYCHIATRIST

Hours per week: 17.5

Employment Status:  Permanent

Appointment Period:  Available May 2024 

An exciting opportunity currently exists for an enthusiastic and highly experienced Consultant Psychiatrist - Consultation Liaison, who is interested in improving health outcomes across the general hospital setting, to join our Mental Health Division on a permanent basis.  We are seeking someone who relishes the complex and rewarding work of a liaison psychiatrist within a multidisciplinary team.

For this role the successful applicant will combine Consultation Liaison Psychiatry support across the general hospital setting and will provide specialist inreach to the Statewide Spinal Rehabilitation Service, providing care to patients at all stages of their recovery journey.

This is a senior Medical Position and carries with it the professional responsibilities of clinical leadership, teaching and training as well as administrative requirements.  The Consultant Psychiatrist will ensure that services provided by the Mental Health Division are the highest standard, emphasising excellence, service, care, staff performance, cost efficiency, research and education within a comprehensive clinical governance framework.

You will be working with a team of professionals to make a difference to consumers impacted by mental health difficulties. Person centred care will be at the core of what you do, and the successful candidate will be guided by the Austin Health values.

To be successful for this role you must: 

  • Be a registered Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP), or equivalent.
  • Be an accredited supervisor for RANZCP training in accordance with RANZCP guidelines.
  • Have an interest in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry as demonstrated by interest, experience and/or ideally an advanced certificate in CL Psychiatry from RANZCP.
  • Demonstrated experience with a variety of liaison psychiatry settings, including inreach to the emergency department or rehabilitation services where indicated.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build professional relationships between mental health and other healthcare.
  • Demonstrated commitment to improving the quality and safety of patients across a health service and throughout the lifespan (including paediatrics and aged).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with medical and surgical teams to achieve optimal health outcomes for patients of Austin Health.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching, training and research.
