Control Systems Specialist

The Mt Cuthbert Group is a privately owned, Australian-based copper and gold producer with extensive exploration assets in NW Queensland. Mt Cuthbert Group acquired the Leichhardt Project in 2013, located at the remote Mount Cuthbert Mine, near the township of Kajabbi, NW QLD. In 2020, the group acquired the Rocklands site, approx. 17kms west of Cloncurry. This year will see further projects coming online for both Rocklands and Crusader (Mt Cuthbert).

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will provide specialised service support on existing Control Systems at the Rocklands operation, ensuring their proper and efficient operation as well as providing ongoing support to the Process and Maintenance teams including the programming of Control Systems and facilitating the integration with other systems related to the processing plant.

This autonomous position is not for the faint-hearted! You will be responsible to:

• Provide Control Systems support to breakdowns and production critical issues;
•  Investigate and identify the root cause of related downtime caused by Control Systems and identify and execute solutions to prevent repeat events from occurring;
• Initiate and implement minor Control Systems improvement work to achieve safer and more reliable plant, thereby maintaining and improving process efficiencies in line with our business plan;
• Execute Control Systems design and commissioning for minor plant modifications and new equipment installation;
• Provide technical stewardship through a variety of minor work in the electrical, instrumentation and Control Systems space;
• Provide governance on all proposed Control Systems changes on site including critical control effectiveness test and verification;
•  Assist in the definition and development of the systems and supporting infrastructure needed to sustain and improve governance of site Automation & Control Systems.
• Refine and plan the site obsolescence strategy and tactics for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA and other systems. This includes capital planning, cost estimation and CER creation.
• Provide mentoring to Electrical and Instrumentation personnel;
• Initiate and implement a process to identify and rationalise redundant plant, equipment, DCS hardware and DCS configuration;
• Actively manage DCS alarm data base;
• Review and rationalise plant wide control system communication network architecture
• Follow and assist in creating work instructions.
• Ensure compliance with mine standard operating procedures.

To be successful you will need to have:

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Mechatronic or Control Systems Engineering or Trade qualifications in Electrical or Instrumentation discipline in equivalent industry and/or organisational experience.
• Competent in configuring and programming DCS Systems - Honeywell system experience would be advantageous.
• Competent in configuring and programming various PLC platforms including Rockwell, Schneider and Siemens.
• Competent in configuring and programming SCADA applications;
• Competent in analogue and discrete sensors (e.g. level, flow, pressure, temperature, position);
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
• Investigation and Root Cause Analysis experience;
• Team player with the ability to work effectively and build relationships with people at all levels of the business

The role is offered as a 14/14 FIFO position from Brisbane, Townsville or Cairns or DIDO Mt Isa or Cloncurry with meals & accommodation provided at the Cloncurry camp. For those choosing to live in Cloncurry, a residential allowance applies.
