About the Branch
As part of Water and Waste (WW), the Service Sustainability Branch is responsible for planning to ensure a sufficient and continuous supply of safe and reliable drinking and recycled water, to meet the communities’ reasonable needs and expectations. The branch is also responsible for planning to ensure the safe collection, treatment, disposal and reuse of wastewater (and residues) for the protection of human health and safety.
The Branch is responsible to undertake various planning tasks to deliver short, medium and long term planning outcomes to service growth and innovation requirements for the Gold Coast. These activities including the infrastructure planning, development and implementation of strategies, catchment and waterways planning and activities. It ensures that new assets are developed in a timely manner to provide the capacity to meet current and future community needs. In so doing, the Service Sustainability Branch ensures the ability of the community to grow and prosper within the environmental, infrastructure and economic resources available, without limiting the use of those resources by future generations.
The Branch ensures that our catchments and water environments are healthy, monitored and managed effectively and our environment is protected from impact due to WW activities.
About the Role
The primary role of Coordinator Environment is to lead a team who partner with the operational branches within the Water and Waste Directorate, to improve environmental performance and compliance. This includes the provision of advice to the operators of landfills, waste and recycling centers, sewage treatment plants and the sewerage network. This also includes managing the delivery of environmental improvement projects or assisting operators in delivery environmental improvement projects.
Key deliverables of the position:
- Provision of advice to the Water and Waste Directorate to improve environmental performance as it relates to the Environmental Authorities and negotiate any required amendments
- Manage a team of Environmental Professionals who partner with the operational areas of Water and Waste to increase environmental awareness and develop fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Manage interactions and reporting to the Department of Environment and Science within required timeframes.
- Provide advice in response to environmental incidents and ensure appropriate actions are undertaken.
- Coordination of annual environmental reporting requirements.
