ABOUT THE ROLEWe are now seeking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Coordinator of Band, Brass and Woodwind Studies to join our prestigious music department commencing in Term 1 2025.
This role, which has become available for the first time in nearly 30 years due to the retirement of our esteemed incumbent, Mr John Thomas, aka “JT”, offers a unique chance to continue the legacy while bringing fresh ideas and innovations to our program.
As the Coordinator of Band, Brass and Woodwind Studies you will report directly to the Director of Music and play a pivotal role in autonomously managing day-to-day operations. You will collaborate with a dedicated team of music tutors, students, musicians, Friends of Music representatives, and parent volunteers to uphold our department's performance standards and ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Promoting and coordinating brass, woodwind, and percussion tuition.
- Leading various bands and ensembles in the co-curricular program.
- Generating revenue through tuition.
- Managing private tutors' activities.
- Overseeing instrument acquisition, utilisation, and maintenance.
For candidates with teaching qualifications, there is an opportunity to combine this role with a teaching position at the college.
ABOUT YOUTo excel in this role and continue the exceptional work of JT, you should possess a deep passion for music education and a strong commitment to fostering a culture of excellence and inclusivity within our music department. Specifically, we are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following attributes:
- Technical Skills: Demonstrated experience in conducting bands and teaching music, including successful repertoire selection, stage management, and optimising equipment performance.
- Leadership: Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic initiatives in music education, showcasing an understanding of industry trends and effective student recruitment and retention strategies.
- Collaboration: Evidence of effective collaboration with music tutors, students, parents, and community partners, leading to enhanced music program outcomes.
- Community Engagement: History of actively engaging with the community to promote institutions, build relationships, and represent organisations at various events.
- Qualifications: Possession of an Associate or Licentiate Diploma from AMEB, Trinity College, or similar, membership in the Music Teachers’ Association, a valid Working with Children Check, and First Aid and CPR Qualifications. Registration with the Queensland College of Teachers is advantageous, not essential.
- Passion for Music: Demonstrated passion for music education through past roles, dedicated to nurturing students' musical talents with excellence and creativity.
