About the Role

Accountable to the Chief Sustainability Officer, this position will be focused on the needs and aspirations of the Townsville community; growing and managing customer relationships, developing a culture of customer-centricity and personal accountability; and reshaping how we deliver services to maximise value.

This position’s purpose is to lead a diverse team of subject matter experts to foster:

  • Delivery of landscape-scale restoration to key Townsville environments (coastal, catchments, and savannas, including integration of circular economy initiatives (i.e. Weeds to Healthy Soils/Looping Reef City/People), integrating into First Nations collaborations.
  • Community wide sustainable action across a catchment and landscape integrated city, for water quality and nature-based solutions to help ensure environmental, social, and economic values are maintained for future generations.
  • Delivery of restorative activities which integrate with stacked opportunities such as blue carbon, soil carbon, and biodiversity/wildlife offsets.
  • Better understanding of the contribution that water and landscape functions make to Townsville’s economic growth and development; building resilience models of supply and demand; and our quality of life and the environment.
  • Water Sensitive Cities and Total Water Cycle opportunities (waterways, wetlands, marine, groundwater, stormwater, parklands, riverbanks, and wastewater) in order to contribute to a more liveable, resilient, and productive Townsville

About You

Our ideal candidate will have a degree qualification in sustainability, environmental science, or other relevant water management, environmental management, or natural resource management disciplines with extensive experience, expertise and technical aptitude in the principles and practices of ‘water sensitive city’, total water cycle management, integrated water management and in the use of smart technological approaches.

Proven ability to lead innovative business improvement and community behaviour change programs in response to key operational and strategic challenges

* The Council contribution to employees' superannuation for contributing employees shall be 13.5% of the employees' ordinary time earnings subject to the employee contributing a minimum of 6% of their ordinary time earnings.
