About the Role

As a Councillor Advisor, you will assist Cr Hall and represent, engage and interact with the community.  You will be drafting, managing, facilitating and posting content including writing draft speeches, communication pieces, taking photos and videos that you will be responsible supporting Cr Hall with the management, engagement and positive representation of Cr Hall and of Council.

As such, your background and passion in public relations via various social media and communication mediums will be critical in this role. Your ability to draft compelling, time sensitive communication content aligning to the tone, importance and direction required by Cr Hall, will accurately reflect the moment and engage the community in a meaningful and positive way.

What you will do:

  • Support calendar scheduling – ensuring Cr Hall is on time and well prepared for his appointments. Coordinating the Cr diary with requirements based on priority and coordinating community consultation events.
  • Effective Communication with varied stakeholders such as, the Mayor, Councillor’s, community members and key stakeholders reflecting the tone, needs and tools used.
  • Monitor, respond and prioritise and action emails in the division email inbox, including research, general information researching general information on issues or complaints, including actioning or providing suggested responses (as directed) within a timely manner.
  • Proactive preparation of meetings, meeting rooms, technology set up and taking meeting minutes (when required)
  • using technology, including maintaining databases, taking video’s/ photo’s, creating content and preparing social media posts, use of various apps.
  • acting in accordance with legislative obligations, the Code of Conduct for Councillor Advisors in Queensland


We're looking for someone with the following characteristics:

  • Confidentiality - you're known for your ability to maintain confidentiality and use discretion, sound judgement and tact in dealing with sensitive issues. 
  • Political awareness - you have political awareness, sound judgement and confidence to research if you are unsure.
  • Stakeholder relationships - you can quickly build trust-based relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Effective communication - ability to respond to correspondence from the public via written and verbal communication, with the ability to reflect tone and resolve conflict, effectively.
  • Creative thinker - ability to write text and design that will be distributed to the community via email, letters and flyers and social media platforms. Taking photos and videos relating to government projects.
  • An agile, flexible and professional individual 

This role is primarily located at the Logan City Council City Administration Centre in Logan Central, with the requirement to work at specific division locations when needed. This role does not offer working from home arrangements.

Minimum Requirements of the role

  • Previous experience as a personal assistant (highly desirable)
  • Experience with Marketing, Communications, PR or graphic design (desirable)
  • Drivers licence (highly desirable as this role requires some travel to events)
  • Ability to receive a satisfactory result for employment checks (including police check and working rights)
  • Hold or ability to obtain a Blue Working with Children Card (paid employment card)
  • Experience in Local Government or Government (desirable)
