Working in the stunning Kimberley region of Western Australia comes with a range of great experiences and challenges beyond what you might experience elsewhere. You will gain career changing skills and experience and develop and nurture relationships with local communities while embracing the unexpected, as every day will be different.
As the Counsellor, Marooloo Child Sexual Abuse Services you will provide therapeutic supports to Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and at times non-Aboriginal young people (under the age of 25) who have experienced sexual abuse or are at risk of being sexually abused. You may also work with young people who are responsible for, or at risk of, sexually abusing other children. You will use your significant experience as a counsellor to provide a service that includes consultation, assessment, referral and counselling/traditional healing for children, parents and extended family members and carers who have been exposed to child abuse. You will also be part of developing and delivering educational and healing groups for parents and carers, children and community members.
The role is co-located with other Anglicare WA staff in our Derby office and will receive clinical supervision and line management support remotely from our Broome based West Kimberley Service Manager. This is a full time fixed term contact until 30 September 2024, with a strong likelihood of extension for a further two years.
What you will bring
To be successful in this role you will have:
Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling
Significant experience working with children and young people who have experienced trauma
Demonstrated experience working in a culturally appropriate way with clients from Aboriginal backgrounds
Ability to work autonomously and manage your own workload
Skilled at using IT systems – Athena Penelope experience would be a distinct advantage
Group facilitation experience with children and/or adults
Knowledge of Derby and surrounding communities would be a great advantage
You will be an exceptional communicator who can build relationships and work with a range of stakeholders including local Child Protection and Family Services staff, Police, health agencies and other local services for referrals and ongoing support of clients and to promote the development of the Indigenous Child Sexual Abuse Referral Service (ICSARS).
The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check and WA Drivers License.
Impact and benefits
Sharing your knowledge, skills and experience, you will make an impact to the lives of families and communities across the Kimberley.
In return for your drive and commitment, we provide the support of an inclusive and welcoming community which places people at the heart of all the work we do and encourages broad thinking, curiosity, creativity and best practice.
Also:-
$104,423 full time salary (includes 10% remote allowance) plus 2.5% specified program allowance (if eligible) + 11% superannuation.
Generous weekly rent subsidy of $300/week (T & C’s apply)
