ABOUT NGALLA WIRRIN WUNGENING

Ngalla Wirrin Wungening (Our Spirit Healing) delivers alcohol and other drug healing practices, through:

We offer support to individuals with alcohol and other drug challenges themselves, and to families who need support for someone else’s use. Support options include one-to-one counselling, group work, and outreach services where we engage with clients in the community.

Wungening Aboriginal Corporation has provided services to the Aboriginal community for over 35 years and we are now recruiting a dedicated team to deliver Ngalla Wirrin Wungening

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Ngalla Wirrin Wungening (NWW) Counsellor Educator is central component to the delivery of the Ngalla Wirrin Wungening (Our Spirit Healing) model. This service delivers alcohol and other drug healing practices.

The NWW Counsellor/Educator works collaboratively within a dedicated team to deliver the entire ‘Healing Journey’. Specific components on the journey for this role, include:

  • Awareness – Provides internal and external stakeholders with up-to-date information about NWW.
  • Enquiry – Supports people seeking further information on NWW with warmth and curiosity.
  • Referral – Responds effectively to referrals from all sources, i.e., service, self, family, etc.
  • Pre-entry – Provides potential clients with information to support their choice to begin NWW.
  • Welcome – Offers a warm welcome as a person begins their healing through their ‘Welcome pack’.
  • Business Time – Supports all clients with counselling and the development of strategies to achieve and sustain the changes they would like to make in relation to their healing.
  • After-care – Offer people support as they move to maintain their healing in community, including, opportunities to support others with their journey.

The NWW Counsellor/Educator provides this service as part of the NWW Team.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Proven ability to achieve the responsibilities as outlined in this job description.
  • Commitment to providing AOD services in a culturally strong and safe way.
  • Certificate IV in Alcohol and Other Drugs, or similar, and/or desire to obtain these skills. 
  • Experience providing AOD Counselling in a relevant setting. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and respect for Aboriginal culture, protocols, and boundaries.
  • Knowledge of challenges and services from an AOD context.
  • Understanding of and commitment to working to key performance indicators. 
  • Developed computer skills, including Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Teams. 
  • Experience in collecting data, analysing information, and preparing reports. 

Desirable

  • Aboriginality
  • Experience working with client management systems such as Pharos, Lumary, Infoexchange, etc
  • Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
