About the Barkly Region

The Barkly Region covers more than 320,000 km2 stretching from the old Telegraph Station at Barrow Creek in the south to the historical droving township of Newcastle Waters in the north. Located approximately 1000km south of Darwin and 500km north of Alice Springs. Tennant Creek has a population of 3,252 and is the largest town in the region.

The estimated population of the Barkly Regional Council is 6,316 spread over 7 communities (2 regional towns and 5 remote communities). About the Role:

As a Customer Service Administration Officer, you are responsible for the delivery of excellent Customer Service to all internal and external customers. You are also responsible for the provision of accurate and efficient secretarial, clerical, cashier, reception, records, administration, and backfilling support. In addition, the position holder will provide support across the Barkly Regional Council (Council) Administration Centre. 

This position will act as the first point of contact for customers and handle routine administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, typing letters, preparing reports, and maintaining customer records. Additionally, they will assist with answering enquires, resolving complaints, and managing customer accounts. They will work closely with other departments to provide a seamless customer experience and ensure effective communication between teams.

The Essentials: 

  • Previous Customer Service and administration experience.
  • Understanding of the role including relevant policies and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Well-developed computer skills, in particular MS Office.
  • A current National Criminal History Check.

The Finer Details: 

  • Full Time position paying an annual salary of $61,914.46 ($1,190.66 gross per week)
  • Tennant Creek Zone Allowance of $1.89 per hour
  • 11.5% Superannuation 
  • Annual Leave of 6 weeks paid with 17.5% leave loading.
