Duties

The Cybercrime Consultant role is a critical and dynamic position within the Tasmania Police Department, created in response to the prevalence of online offending against children. This role is at the forefront of combating increasingly complex cybercrimes, fuelled by rapid advancements in technology and the evolving landscape of digital platforms, including social media and the dark web.

The Cybercrime Consultant will be instrumental in addressing these challenges by providing specialised support in investigating online crimes, particularly those targeting vulnerable children. The role involves the forensic examination of digital devices, uncovering critical evidence that could be pivotal in safeguarding children and detecting and disrupting offenders.

In an era where cybercriminals continually adapt and exploit new technologies, staying contemporary with digital trends and understanding the intricacies of various online platforms is invaluable. Technological expertise will not only aid in immediate investigations but also shape the development and delivery of training programs, providing capability uplift to the department in terms of digital forensic capabilities.

The role extends beyond technical expertise; it's about making a tangible difference in the community by reducing the incidence of sexual harm and predatory behaviours against children.
