About the Role

Exciting Opportunity: Join Victoria's Exclusive Cancer Service Improvement Network

This role is an excellent opportunity to join Victoria's exclusive cancer service improvement network, working within the Victorian Integrated Cancer Service team. We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Brings experience and expertise in managing local and state-wide health datasets, with a proven ability in analysing, translating, and effectively communicating data to key internal and external stakeholders.

Integrated Cancer Services (ICS) are pivotal in Victoria, dedicated to enhancing the experiences and outcomes of individuals affected by cancer. Guided by the Victorian Cancer Action Plan 2020-2024, ICS activities are strategically directed.

GICS is among the nine teams forming the VICS network.

This position offers a fixed-term opportunity for 12 months, with a fortnightly workload ranging from 32 to 64 hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represents GICS at VICS statewide cancer Data and Information forums as directed by the GICS Director including contributing to the development of the VICS IT environment, as a member of the Information Management Group, working with VICS colleagues to standardise reporting and reduce duplication of effort.
  • Assumes responsibility for data governance, storage, integrity, access and flow on behalf of the GICS team.
  • Oversee the access, maintenance, extraction, and analysis of data from a variety of existing datasets including maintenance and administration activities for GICS SQL databases via the Victorian data Access Linkage Trust (VALT)
  • In consultation with the GICS team, develops bespoke data collection tools and methods to support the collection, analysis and presentation of data pertaining to service quality and improvement research projects as required.
    • Develops Microsoft Power BI dashboards, and uses visualisation techniques to highlight data insights to a broad range of stakeholders to inform cancer service improvement, and enabling quality and performance monitoring
    • Assists stakeholders to understand current local, state-wide, and national health information by drawing on relevant sources of data pertaining to cancer and delivery of cancer services.
    • Supports GICS staff to increase their data capability, providing education where necessary on data availability, data accessibility, and analysis techniques.

Skills and Experience

  • Hold a tertiary qualification in health information management, health informatics, data/computer science or equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, and training.
  • Familiarity with healthcare systems and knowledge of issues pertaining to the provision of high-quality healthcare services.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in health record audit, data collection, management, analysis, and reporting
  • High level data analysis and interpretation skills including sound working knowledge of general statistical analysis methods
  • Understanding of data collection design principles, data integrity and the use of data to inform and evaluate projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, sharing responsibility for the achievement of team’s goals, objectives and outcomes and thereby contributing to a positive and trusting team culture.
  • Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills, especially for reporting complex statistical results.
