We are actively seeking a dynamic and passionate Data Engineer to join our team. The Data Engineers are responsible for designing and, building, and maintaining solutions for collecting, storing, and analysing data at scale and ensuring it is in a highly usable state by the time it reaches data scientists and analysts of the business units within Capricorn, as well as supporting the legacy Data Warehouse stack.
This hands-on role requires technical expertise to deliver data and analytical services, including data ingestion, transformation, storage, and reporting, and strives to continuously develop new and improved Data Engineering capabilities.
Key Accountabilities
- Creates and implements Data Engineering solutions using modern software engineering practices
- Creation of databases optimized for performance, implementing schema changes, and maintaining data architecture standards across all the business's databases
- Development and implementation of scripts for database maintenance, monitoring, and performance tuning
- Designing and developing scalable ETL packages
- To oversee large-scale data platforms and to support the fast-growing data within the business
- Enabling and running data migrations across different databases and different servers, for example, data migration from SQL servers to MySQL
- Defines and implements data stores based on system requirements and consumer requirements
- Codify best practices for future reuse in the form of accessible, reusable patterns, templates, and codebases
- Implements well designed, testable and efficient data pipelines
- Strong Data Warehousing experience utilising SSAS, SSIS and SSRS Reporting, performance tuning, as well as replication and scaling.
- Expertise in SQL and ETL automation, including experience with Microsoft SQL Server database engine and an understanding of database concepts and the ability to create and maintain complex SQL queries.
- Proven ability to interpret business requirements into technical and analytical solutions.
- Solid understanding of the full development life cycle.
- Knowledge of Agile development methodologies.
- Source control knowledge for continuous integration and continuous development.
- Experience in Denodo will be an advantage.
- Ideally, a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
