We are a data-driven business and data is integral to everything we do. We build and manage highly available data processing systems and pipelines that feed large volumes of data, at high speed, to business-critical operations. To ensure efficient and scalable growth, we are looking for an experienced Data Engineering Team Lead to join our Data Engineering team in Melbourne to lead a team of Data Engineers and drive innovation in our data platforms. Reporting to the Head of Enterprise Services in Melbourne, Australia, you will be responsible for recording, collating, and aggregating trading and user behavior, and presenting this information to both internal stakeholders and third-party services.

You will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our data platforms, and will have the opportunity to demonstrate your technical expertise and leadership skills. You will be responsible for supporting the professional development of your team, mentoring them to achieve their full potential, and fostering a supportive and technically progressive work environment.

As our Data Engineering Team Lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Maintaining and improving existing data infrastructure and data processing systems
  • Liaising with project stakeholders to provide advice, document, and create solutions and communicate delivery milestones
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to team members and the wider development team group
  • Ensuring a high level of quality of delivered software through coding standards and continuous integration monitoring systems • Ensuring an appropriate level of data source performance and reliability for internal customers
  • Leading initiatives targeted at improving the team’s software development practices
  • Working with the Head of Enterprise Systems on Data Engineering team goals aligned with the wider Corporate and IT group’s goals

About You:

  • Solid experience and knowledge in both functional and object-oriented languages
  • Experienced in delivering software by using test-driven development practices
  • A deep understanding of Data Engineering and distributed computing problems, patterns, systems and tools
  • Practical experience with AWS Cloud and infrastructure-as-code
  • Knowledgeable in the alternative data formats and data types available and their advantages and disadvantages
  • Solid understanding of differing enterprise data architectures and relevant concepts such as data lakes, data marts and constituent technology offering
  • Good working knowledge of Apache Kafka or related technologies
  • AWS services related to Data Engineering
  • Docker and related container-orchestration technologies (e.g. Kubernetes/AWS EKS)
  • Current and appropriate working rights in Australia
