Financial Crime Threat Management (FCTM) strives to protect our business and communities against Financial Crime Threats. FCTM utilise customer data and intelligence to detect, investigate and escalate potentially suspicious activity such as money laundering, financing of terrorism, and activity involving sanctioned parties. FCTM specialists work within the Financial Crime Portfolio to support businesses across the group in complying with Financial Crime regulatory obligations.
The Data Scientist, Financial Crime Threat Management role is critical to making this happen and will:
• Build, train and deploy machine learning models and algorithms to identify suspicious activities to detect and disrupt money laundering, terrorism financing and other serious organised crime.
• Design, develop and maintain end-to-end automated data products via modular data transformations for the purpose of AML Transaction monitoring. In doing so, automate data ingestion, transformation and validation processes ensuring data quality, integrity and consistency throughout machine learning lifecycle.
• Defining and creating a suitable data model to ingest and transform data from source to a useable structure for AML / CTF Transaction monitoring. Create information rich features as candidates for ML model inputs.
• Implement robust and compliant data and model governance practices, including continuous model monitoring, data lineage and data quality monitoring. Provide support for triaging, prioritisation, investigation and resolution of the identified issues. Embed use of Version Control enabling collaboration and a return to previous states.
• At pace, plan, sequence and deliver an approach to accessing the required data and deploying automated pipelines on the preferred technology platform (Cloud).
• Working closely with the Product Owners, Technology Leads, Architects, Data Governance and Management to ensure the solution delivered meets platform’s design and architecture principles.
• Maintain technical documentation for data pipelines, including architecture, data lineage, processing steps and transformation rules, data quality and integrity checks.

What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in the role, you will ideally bring the following:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related fields
• Proven of experience in data engineering or data science roles, with a focus on delivering automation at scale.
• Expert in Python and SQL object-oriented programming with proven ability to write clean, modular reusable code.
• Very Sstrong knowledge of database, data mesh, data warehousing / data lake concepts and data modelling techniques (DBT) and relevant data engineering tools. (e.g. BigQuery).
• Strong expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience in cloud data migration projects.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and frameworks, including data pre-processing, feature engineering and other data requirements to support development, continuous training, evaluation and monitoring of machine learning models.
• Outstanding problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
