About the areas and roles
We are looking to fill Data and Statistical Analysts roles in the Labour and Population Statistics Branches to help produce, analyse and communicate labour and population statistics. The process may also be used to fill other Data and Statistical Analysis roles in Social Statistics areas. This includes information on employment, unemployment, industries, occupations, hours and wages, population, births, deaths and migration, and much more. For a sense of the broad range of labour and population statistics that the ABS produces, see the and
A large number of the positions will be involved in addressing the priority labour market gaps that were announced in the released on 25 September 2023, outlining the government’s vison for a dynamic and inclusive labour market.
Our teams use a range of data sources such as surveys and administrative information, to produce and communicate information on changes in the labour market, economy and society. Working in our team, you will learn how the ABS produces statistics, be exposed to a range of software and methods, get hands-on experience analysing data, and be involved in communicating statistics to a broad range of audiences.
This high-profile information is used to assist government in strengthening policy decision making and support evaluation. It also informs important decisions across Australia, including by governments, businesses, local communities, and individual people and households. Key partnerships exist with government agencies including the Reserve Bank of Australia, Treasury, Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, Jobs and Skills Australia, Productivity Commission, universities and the private sector.
