Join The Alpha School System (TASS) as a Database Developer and play a pivotal role in optimising database and query performance across our innovative product suite.
We are seeking a dedicated professional with a high interest in database systems, particularly Microsoft SQL Server, to ensure the highest standards of database performance and integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Performance Monitoring: Implement and maintain performance monitoring tools for both on-prem and cloud database instances.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex SQL database issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify root causes within the tech stack.
- Performance Feedback: Provide actionable feedback and suggestions to development and technical services teams on performance issues identified on-site.
- Query Validation: Assist developers in creating and validating SQL queries, ensuring they are efficient and effective.
- Schema Design: Collaborate with system analysts and developers to design and optimise database schemas.
- Training and Education: Train developers on secure SQL coding and performance best practices.
- Proactive Assessment: Regularly assess existing database designs and provide recommendations for improvement.
- SQL Functionality: Identify and recommend SQL functionalities that are not currently utilised but could benefit the system.
- Infrastructure Advice: Advise technical services on performance improvements to database infrastructure and services.
Essential Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Database Developer.
- In-depth knowledge of MS SQL Server and database management systems (DBMS).
- Strong technical skills in SQL (including secure SQL coding and database practices).
- Extensive experience with performance monitoring and optimisation tools.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex database issues.
- Familiarity with both on-prem and cloud database environments.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills.
- Ability to train and mentor developers on SQL best practices.
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with AWS.
- Experience with Glowroot APM
- Understanding of database infrastructure and services.
