PRIMARY DETAIL
Macquarie University is seeking a new Dean of Students to provide strategic leadership in the development and sustainability of student experiences that support learning, personal development and a diverse and socially responsible learning community.

We are now seeking a new Dean of Students to provide strategic leadership in the development and sustainability of student experiences that support learning, personal development and a diverse and socially responsible learning community.
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Rorden Wilkinson, this Pro Vice-Chancellor level role has strong involvement with, and requires a deep understanding of development and implementation of policies, transformational projects and initiatives that support and enrich the academic and social experience of Students at Macquarie.
The Office of Dean of Students leads the development of the student experience and sense of belonging across the University, both on campus and digitally. The Dean of Students is responsible for delivering on priority areas of the University’s Strategy and Operating Plan, in particular, for student wellbeing and belonging, engagement and conduct. Helping lead the implementation and delivery of the new Macquarie Advantage strategy, the Office of the Dean of Students aligns the provision of student services and support to improve the overall experience of our students and to retain and improve upon high levels of student satisfaction.
This is a five (5) year fixed term academic appointment, working full time from our Wallumattagal campus at North Ryde, Sydney.
About You:
You are passionate about ensuring student engagement and satisfaction are optimised though the enablement of student services and support mechanisms that are engaging and accessible when and how they are needed.
You are a strategic thinker with extensive University experience at a senior leadership level, with excellent knowledge of student needs and expectations.
You have proven success leading teams and managing functions while fostering a culture which supports high performance, collaboration, agility and accountability.
You have a proven track record of success in developing effective solutions, identifying innovative approaches and embedding these in the culture and behaviours of the organisation.
Highly collaborative in your approach, you build effective working relationships and cultivate a respectful and service focused environment that fosters initiative, innovation and continuous improvement across the institution.
The successful applicant will have the following skills, knowledge and experience:
PhD and/or equivalent and extensive relevant experience within a university.
Experience of operation in a complex and diverse organisation, understanding how to shape and navigate outcomes in partnership with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
Extensive experience in leading teams effectively and driving outcomes, including establishing strategic priorities, ensuring effective use of resources and the provision of a high level of student and stakeholder support.
A high level of collegiality in working across academic and professional service areas, with the ability to build consensus and lead change.
Superior knowledge and deep understanding of academic student service practices and policies in the higher education sector.
Experience in the case management of complex student matters which may include complaints, discipline and appeals.
Experience in quality assurance in higher education, with an understanding of the legislative and regulatory context in which a university operates.
Experience leading policy, process and service design to improve outcomes for students.
