  • Reporting to the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Information Officer

A unique opportunity now exists to be appointed as the Deputy ChiefNursing and Midwifery Information Officer at Monash Health.

This extraordinary role is based at Monash Medical Centre, Clayton and will enable the right applicant to apply their professional Nursing and/or midwifery knowledge with their passion for and experience in clinical informatics.  The role will be appointed on a permanent part time basis (0.8 EFT/four days per week).

Reporting to the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Information Officer/General Manager Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Informatics Program, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to impact how nurses and midwives document and provide care at Victoria’s largest health service.

As the Deputy ChiefNursing and Midwifery Information Officer (DCNMIO), you will chair the Clinical Solutions Working Group and your key responsibilities will include:

  • regularly consulting with executives and senior leaders and provide relevant analysis ensuring alignment to current/future information requirements incorporating best practice initiatives;
  • embedding the National Nursing and Midwifery Digital Health Capability Framework and continually assist in transforming Monash Health clinicians (nurses and midwives) into more educated, empowered users of digital systems to support the quality, safety and efficiency of delivered health care;
  • ensuring the Nursing and Midwifery professions' requirements are met now and in the future, using informatics, data standards, evidence and architecture to embed and determine standardised best practice models embedding innovative patient care into practice;
  • ensuring future facing alignment to an agreed nursing standardised language (International Classification of Nursing Practice);
  • applying your strategic thinking skills to ensure Nursing and Midwifery care and documentation is visible within the integrated EMR and other information systems;
  • continually reviewing the latest technology available to support Nursing and Midwifery team members and recommend  changes as needed; and
  • operationalising the Nursing and Midwifery Informatics Research Strategy in consultation with the CNMIO and University partners.

There is a requirement to travel to other sites within Monash Health and a hybrid working environment can be discussed (WFH option 1-2 days per week).

About Us

The EMR & Informatics Program brings together three distinct areas of work:     

  • The EMR BAU Program (business as usual) activities support Monash Health’s clinicians and front-line team members to work effectively in the EMR each day. This ensures the EMR remains clinically safe and aligned to PROMPT guidelines eg. updates to medications, patient care alerts, orders within order sets, iView fields, bed/service expansions. It also includes code upgrades.  
  • The EMR Enhancement Program which are defined improvements to the EMR of moderate or high complexity, that require resourcing additional to BAU and project methodology to complete as well as seeking to constantly enhance the EMR with optimisations, updates and enhancements.  
  • The Informatics teams (nursing/midwifery, allied health and medical) support and guide clinical areas in their use of digital systems to support patient care including the EMR. We focus the use of data and analytics to drive improved care.  

About You

To ensure your success in this role you will bring the following demonstrated skills, experience and knowledge:

  • extensive experience and understanding of Nursing and Midwifery Informatics in the context of an EMR or other Clinical Information System implementation;
  • demonstrated high level analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills with a proven record in informatics and the assessment and evaluation of technical requirements within a complex ICT environment;
  • demonstrated effective communication skills (oral and written), including the ability to negotiate, advise, influence others and work collaboratively with people to make decisions;
  • passion for leading Nursing and Midwifery research and embedding the National Nursing and Midwifery Digital Health Capability Framework across Monash Health; and
  • proven ability to work in partnership with other clinical informatics specialties (medical, allied health and pharmacy) as well as collaboratively with clinical and technology teams.

Mandatory requirements of the role

  • extensive experience working in a nursing or midwifery role within a multi site health service, including significant experience working in Nursing and/or Midwifery Informatics
  • experience developing and implementing an EMR and leveraging technology and informatics to improve processes and practice
  • current registration with the NMBA
  • relevant postgraduate qualifications at Masters level, preferably in health/clinical informatics
  • membership with the Australian College of Nursing
