Job description:

Purpose of the Role:

The Deputy Construction Manager is responsible for supporting the Construction Manager in overseeing and coordinating all construction activities, ensuring they are executed safely, efficiently and in accordance with project specifications.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field is preferred.
• Proven experience in a construction management role.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is advantageous.

• White Card
• C Class driver's licence

Experience:

• Minimum 8 years' experience in construction, with at least 3 years in a management role.
• Extensive experience in tunnelling projects or underground construction.
• Proficiency in project management software and tools.

Required Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of construction processes, methodologies and best practices.
• Proficiency coordinating construction activities, resources and schedules.
• Highly effective leadership and team management skills to guide and motivate construction teams.
• Familiarity with local and international safety regulations and standards in construction.
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with project teams, stakeholders, contractors and the client.
• Ability to identify and effectively address construction-related challenges.
• Sound decision-making skills to ensure project progress and compliance.

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Construction Manager overseeing all construction activities, ensuring they meet quality and safety standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers and contractors to coordinate construction schedules and resource allocation.
• Ensure construction activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
• Provide leadership and guidance to construction teams, fostering a culture of safety and excellence.
• Implement and oversee quality control processes to ensure construction meets project specifications.
• Facilitate effective communication between project teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Address and resolve construction-related conflicts or issues that may arise during project execution.
• Assist in monitoring construction budgets and expenditures, ensuring cost-effectiveness.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with construction activities.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in construction operations.
