The role

Reporting to the Executive Director, Communicable Diseases Branch, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the Executive Director of the Communicable Diseases Branch in providing clinical leadership and managing relationships with Public Health Units. You will provide expert clinical advice on communicable disease matters of State and National significance, develop strategic partnerships with government agencies and non-government partners, and lead projects addressing communicable disease prevention and control. Additionally, you will lead the development of evidence-based policies and protocols, represent Queensland Health in various forums, monitor emerging Communicable Diseases, and enforce public health standards as a delegated Human Biosecurity Officer in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 2015.

The successful person

To excel in this role, you must demonstrate effective leadership within a large service delivery organisation, overseeing diverse programs and work units to achieve efficient and timely outcomes. Your ability to apply critical thinking, problem-solving, lean thinking, and risk-based decision-making skills will be essential in planning, implementing, and evaluating various communicable disease surveillance, prevention, and control programs.

Furthermore, you should possess strong negotiation, consultative communication, and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders effectively. A solid understanding of relevant public health legislation and its practical application to support disease prevention and control is crucial. Additionally, registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner, preferably with specialist registration, is highly valued. Given the nature of the role, flexibility in working hours, including participation in after-hours work for incident management, and willingness to travel as needed are necessary. Furthermore, compliance with vaccination requirements for specific diseases outlined in the Health Employment Directive No. 01/16 is mandatory for employment in this role.
