About this role: Derrickhand

On behalf of our client, A global leader in drilling and servicing wells. We are in urgent need of Derrickhand with even time rosters with rigs in SA and east coast.

The Derrickman is an integral part of the drilling crew and assists in any operation being carried out by them. During tripping operations and the running of casing, he will work in the derrick. While drilling ahead, he is responsible for maintaining the drilling fluid and the drilling system as directed. In addition to the ability to safely perform manual skills, in a highly skilled team environment, the Derrickman must be able to carry out the correct working procedures required to fulfil the drilling program.

Specific responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Assists in any operation being carried out by the drilling crew
  • Load and unload casing on racks during tripping operations and the running of casing
  • Responsible for maintaining the drilling fluid and the drilling system while drilling ahead, as directed
  • Maintain of drilling equipment as directed, including mud pumps, shakers, the mud system and the pipe handling system
  • Maintain the drilling mud properties as directed by the Mud Engineer/OCR and carry out such tests as may be required to monitor these mud properties
  • Perform work in the derrick as directed by the Driller
  • Maintain his areas of responsibility in a clean, tidy and safe condition
  • Diagnose and repair equipment malfunctions in the mud system
  • Mix mud to the required specifications
  • Maintain log of mud properties as required by company policy or as directed by the Client and Mud Engineer
  • Maintain technical manuals relating to mud equipment
  • Maintain appropriate sections of Daily Drilling Report
  • Report on consumption of mud products at end of each tour in daily drilling report
  • Follow directions given by Mud Engineer/OCR
  • Assist in supervision and training of subordinates in HSEA Company Policy, Procedures and Practices
  • Supervise crew members during mud mixing operations.
  • Assist subordinates to upgrade positions
  • Stress safety and safe working practices to subordinates and report unsafe practices or conditions to the Driller or Tourpusher
  • Train and study for personal advancement
  • Use safe operational practices when handling equipment and tools
  • Have thorough knowledge of rig emergency procedures and signals
  • Participate in Drilling Department safety drills and meetings
What you need to bring:

Education:

  • Minimum of two years in the drilling industry (Preferred)
  • Minimum one year as Floorman or above (Preferred)

Qualification :

  • Certificate II in Drilling - Oil/Gas
  • Certificate III in Drilling - Oil/Gas
  • CPR
  • Senior First Aid
  • Front End Loader Ticket
  • 4x4 Operate Vehicles in the Field
  • Breathing Apparatus
  • Confined Space Training
  • Gas Testing and Monitoring
  • Working At Heights
  • DCGI
