The Role
Pembroke are seeking enthusiastic and suitably experienced applicants to fill casual roles as Boarding House Assistants. Reporting to the Head of Boarding and working closely with the Assistant Head of Boarding and senior staff, Boarding House Assistants contribute to the safety, health, care and development of boarders while cultivating a nurturing, fun and supportive environment in the Boarding House where students can thrive.
A strong commitment to student wellbeing, the capacity to build respectful relationships and supporting students with their schoolwork are essential in this role. The Boarding Assistants will show initiative in supporting the positive atmosphere of the Boarding House and role modelling expected behaviours of the boarders with a clear understanding of the importance and significance of the legal requirements for the supervision of students in terms of Duty of Care requirements.
Rosters are across 7 days per week during school term time with afternoon, evening and weekend shifts available. Afternoon and evening shifts commence at 3.00pm or 6.00pm until 11.00pm. The overnight shift commences at 7.00pm until 8.00am. It is essential that our Boarding Assistants have availability to complete sleepover shifts in the Boarding House at times.
What the role will involve
The successful candidate will:
- Assist in overseeing the safety, health, care and development of boarders
- Provide active duty of care to all boarders
- Provide support and assistance with academic work in appropriate subject areas
- Actively and effectively supervise boarders' day-to-day activities
- Be a role model for boarders and assist in ensuring appropriate expectations of behaviour are developed and maintained
- Administer First Aid and monitor unwell boarders.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a candidate with:
- Previous experience in dealing with children and / or young adults, ideally in a residential setting is desirable
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills
- Ability to effectively engage and work with a range of stakeholders, particularly young people
- A proactive person who welcomes and encourages collaboration with others, actively engages with students and creates opportunities for connection and wellbeing
- Excellent role model for young people, confident, empathetic, collaborative, resilient and resourceful
- Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional boundaries
- Exceptional organisational skills, high attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritise work and multi-task
- Working knowledge of the operations of boarding facilities, would be an advantage but is not essential
- Passionate about and strong commitment to student wellbeing
- Current Working with Children Check, Reporting Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect Training certification and First Aid qualifications.
