Lead the change, from the frontline

Based in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane, the Design Engineer is responsible for the technical performance of solar PV rooftop and ground mount projects assigned to them. They achieve this by providing technical design services to assist both Sales and Project Managers in the delivery of solar and battery solutions to market.

  
With honesty, integrity and respect, you will:

  • Design of assigned projects on time;
  • Produce detailed solution designs for battery and solar solutions of implementation;
  • Submission of grid connection applications;
  • Data gathering activities in support of structural certification or detailed technical design as required;
  • Involvement in technical assessment of vendor equipment including FAT;
  • Ensure project outputs are delivered on time, within budget and to a high technical and HSSE standard;
  • Review and or provide input into solutions design before they are issued to project management to ensure they are realistic, achievable, and profitable;
  • Compliance with HSSE procedures and identification and mitigation of all HSSE risks in accordance with agreed procedures;
  • Lead communications with installers and jobs built to design;
  • Determine Panel and Inverter Technology for the Project in close coordination with Project Manager;
  • Draw PV layouts, determine string configurations, draw Single Line Diagrams, perform generation analysis using PVSyst/Homer or Helioscope;
  • Perform Cable calculations (Voltage drop/ Voltage rise);
  • Perform Mechanical design on the selected Mounting Solution;
  • Create the Electrical, Mount and Label Bill of Material;
  • Compiling Job Orders (Detailed Design, Design Inspection checklist, Testing procedure, Commissioning Sheets, ITP`s) and managing them with installers; 
  • Follow up and support the installer throughout the installation and commissioning process;
  • Developing high level designs for bidding and quoting purposes;
  • Providing technical support to our sales team to support the sales process;
  • Suggesting and making process and product improvements to assist Energy Solutions in maintaining its market leading position; and
  • Development of strategic relationships with key technology partners and OEMs that maximises Shell`s ability to secure targeted opportunities.

What you’ll bring
  
Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:
  • Experience working in a team, preferably within the energy, construction, or services industry;
  • Project management skills, including a minimum of three years’ work experience in the delivery of solar PV rooftop and ground mount projects, including high voltage projects;
  • Experience with HSSE, risk management and contract management;
  • An existing network of key stakeholders within the solar sector;
  • A great understanding of energy use and energy markets in Australia;
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills;
  • Clear, professional, and articulate communication;
  • Good problem-solving skills;
  • High levels of initiative;
  • Effective team player; and
  • Willingness to travel.
