Design & Engineering Manager - Power Solutions

Helios Power Solutions design, manufacture and supply high quality, reliable DC & AC Power Solutions for all types of critical infrastructure. We partner with leading power supply manufacturers and many of Australia’s and New Zealand’s largest Industrial Electronics consumers. We supply into multiple sectors including Transport, Utilities, Defence, Mining & Telecommunications. 

As we continue to grow and expand our influence in the market, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as the Design & Engineering Manager for Power Solutions. 

As the Design & Engineering Manager,  you will play a pivotal role in leading our engineering teams in Australia and New Zealand to develop innovative and reliable Power Solutions. You will be responsible for overseeing the entire engineering process, from product development to final testing, ensuring that our products meet and exceed our customers’ expectations. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of power electronics, conversion technologies, and a passion for driving innovation.

Responsibilities:

Product Development:

• Improve the technical features and/or commercial benefits of the Helios range of standard products.
• Help develop & implement the product roadmap for future models.
• Manage component selection & obsolescence with the support of the Procurement team. 
• Improve processes around documentation & software development & maintenance.
• Assist our customers and Sales team to design Power Solutions to the customers’ requirements.
• Improvise and find creative engineering solutions for customers applications.
• Support new designs with products from key Helios supply partners.
• Direct customer communication at the engineering level to help facilitate new designs and resolve complex technical issues.
• Deliver technical talks (white paper meetings) with Engineering teams at key customers.
• Develop relationships with Senior Engineering contacts at both key customers and supply partners.  

Engineering Practices and Processes:

• Help instill a design ethos that balances both the technical and commercial requirements of a project. 
• Shorten the time taken to support new design opportunities by developing a more standardized approach. 
• Review and improve the current processes for creating, filing, and updating/maintaining (revision management) design files, drawing and other related technical documentation.
• Help install a training program that keeps our design team up to date with the latest (relevant) technologies and further qualifies them (as required).

Leadership

• Develop and execute a comprehensive engineering strategy aligned with the company's overall goals and objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of talented engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement.
• Be the voice of the Design team within the business.
• Help the design team to better communicate both internally and externally when required.
• Help develop a training and career pathway plan for high potential design Engineers.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
• Proven experience in a leadership role within power electronics and conversion engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of power semiconductor devices, converters, inverters, and related technologies.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
