A 6-month government contract opportunity for a Desktop Support Officer based in Adelaide

Your new company 

This government department offers a wide range of services to the public with the aim of creating a secure and peaceful environment by reducing crime and disorder. It is a large and complex organization that is constantly under public scrutiny and accountability due to the nature of its operations. This department provides services to more than 100 locations across the state, 24 hours a day.

Your new role 

The Desktop Support Officer is accountable for aiding in the delivery, setup, and maintenance of hardware and software that are associated with end-user devices such as desktops, laptops, peripherals, licensed applications, and mobile devices. The Desktop Support Officer collaborates closely with other team members to ensure that this department receives a high-quality IS&T service.

  • Contribute to the provision of a quality customer centric service for the provision and support of end user devices and licenced applications.  
  • Support end users in relation to devices, standard operating environments and licenced software applications.
  • Working closely with the IT Asset Administrator to approve and allocate licenced software applications.  
  • Support the build of the desktop standard operating environment, and contribute to updating and maintaining appropriate documentation.
  • Install, fine tune and distribute of application software.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of equipment and participate in audits and stocktakes.
  • Undertake efficient disposal of IS&T assets as approved, in line with security and privacy requirements.  
  • Work collaboratively with the Quality and Assurance Branch and project managers to ensure new or enhanced devices or applications are appropriately operationalised integrated into an appropriate support model.

What you'll need to succeed 

  • Experience in providing and supporting desktop hardware, software, and peripherals.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current end-user devices and technology required to undertake modern policing activities.
  • Ability to adapt to new and changing technology and understand and apply new technology concepts.
  • Understanding and practical experience working in a SDLC and ITIL environment.
  • Understanding and practical experience in the deployment of the Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise suite of products (Word, Excel, and OneDrive).
  • Sound oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technology solutions in business terms, establish rapport, and persuade others.
