As a Detention Youth Worker (courts), you will be responsible for making sure young people are kept safe and well while they are in the custody of the Proper Officer. You will be someone who:

Access theKey Responsibilities:The Detention Youth Worker (Court) key responsibilities are:
- Implement and maintain the safety and security of the cells area of the Brisbane Childrens Court Precinct (BCCP) in accordance with departmental policy, practices and procedures.
- Support young people to understand and abide by the rules and processes of the Proper Officer of the court.
- Understand, interpret and communicate court outcome results, including but not limited to bench charge sheets, bench charge list, notice to appear, warrants, verdict and judgement records, bail undertaking, probation orders, reprimands, restorative justice orders and detention orders.
- Maintain professional relationships and liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders including Queensland Police Service (QPS), Queensland Corrective Services (QCS), Youth Justice, Child And Youth Mental Health Service, Magistrates, Judges, Court registry, legal representatives, community organisations, parents & carers.
- Maintain accurate DCOIS logs in relation to court matters, occurrences, and incidents.
- Write and submit accurate and timely reports using departmental IT systems.
- Communicate and brief managers and supervisors at the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre, Court Supervisor, QCS and Department of Justice and Attorney General, the Proper Officer on matters relating to the safe and secure custody of young people in the care of the proper officer at the BCCP.
- Escort and supervise young people to interviews with youth justice, mental health and legal professionals and court appearances.
- Conduct regular, in person, welfare checks and searches on young people (in accordance with the individual needs) and report concerns or issues to the Courts Supervisor.
- Assist in supporting and responding to violent and/or unsettled young people (including the use of physical restraint as a last resort) and to the required standards of the Proper Officer.
- Provide food, approved medication, additional clothing and personal hygiene products to young people as required.
