Drill Technologies is the drilling optimisation subsidiary of WSG. The company is launching a range of drilling optimisation services and is seeking experienced professional Diamond Drillers with extensive directional drilling experience to join our team. Drill Technologies is the exclusive provider of the Aziwell steerable core barrel and Georaptor directional motors. As part of our field team you will be responsible for the running of the Aziwell suite of directional tools for mining and geotechnical projects throughout Australia.

Job Description

As a directional driller for our Aziwell operations, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient provision of services. The role is based onsite and working with the drilling contractors to enable the professional deployment of the steering tools to ensure the success of the drilling programs. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with the drilling contractor and client on directional drilling needs, working with the drilling crew to deploy and run the directional tools, maintenance of the equipment on site. Training in all the equipment and running will be provided

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day on-site leadership to regarding the running and maintenance of the Aziwell directional tools, ensuring adherence to company vision and values
  • Collaborate with the drilling contractor to ensure success for the directional drilling program
  • Set up,  deploy and maintain steerable coring and directional motors
  • Identify and develop drilling optimisation initiatives based on expertise in directional drilling
  • Oversee site-based aspects of Aziwell operations on specific projects
  • Ensure correct utilisation of resources, including personnel and equipment
  • Maintain equipment and supplies onsite for uninterrupted services
  • Act as the primary client contact, maintaining regular communication to ensure satisfaction and exceed expectations
  • Establish trust in client relations and achieve strong client retention
  • Assist in contract review
  • Collaborate with operations manager to develop and implement plans for future projects
  • Provide regular reports to Drill Technologies management
  • Ensure safe execution of operations for the project and employees
  • Ensure compliance with company and client safety policies
  • Train and ensure competency of field staff in safety protocols
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement in safety practices
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in drilling operations, including directional drilling
  • Minimum 2 years in a senior position, with qualifications advantageous
  • Experienced in directional drilling techniques
  • Advanced knowledge of directional drilling and planning software such as Compass
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Advanced document and report writing skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to prioritise workload
  • Deadline-driven with the ability to think innovatively
  • High degree of autonomy and ability to work within a team environment
