Mimal Land Management is an organisation dedicated to sustainable land management and community development in Central Arnhem Land. We are seeking a dedicated Diesel Mechanic to join our team at Weemol Ranger Base, located in the heart of Arnhem Land, Northern Territory.
The Opportunity
As a Diesel Mechanic with Mimal Land Management, you will play a necessary role in the successful execution of our operations, reporting to the Operations Manager. You will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance of mechanical equipment, ensuring the timely completion of tasks, and fostering the inclusion of local workforces. This position requires a combination of strong leadership skills, Diesel Mechanical expertise, preferably in Toyota vehicles including Landcruisers, and the ability to work effectively in a remote environment.
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our team initially on a short-term four week contract in Bulman Weemol (possibility of more work thereafter). The successful candidate will play a crucial role during this period in light and heavy vehicle mechanics.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee day-to-day workshop operations, ensuring efficiency and adherence to quality standards.
Perform diagnostics to out of service mechanical equipment, order parts and repair
Perform maintenance on mechanical equipment such as vehicle servicing
Maintain workshop supplies, order parts and arrange delivery
Provide guidance to apprentices, assisting them in completing their apprenticeships and achieving competency.
Deliver practical training and instruction in light and heavy vehicle mechanics, emphasising safety and best practices.
Foster a positive and culturally sensitive learning environment for Aboriginal people, encouraging their skill development and confidence.
Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and organisational policies within the workshop.
About You
Proven experience as a mechanic for light and heavy vehicles, with experience in a similar leadership role.
Recognised qualification in automotive and/or diesel fitting.
Strong coordination and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple activities simultaneously to meet deadlines plus the initiative to find solutions to challenges.
Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make sound decisions.
Current driver's license, 4WD off-road driving experience and basic vehicle maintenance skills.
Bulman is a dry community; candidates must be able to live an alcohol-free lifestyle.
