Digital Forensics Officer - Grade 5 to 8

Salary: From $90,295 to $117,363 per annum, Grade 5 to 8, (excluding superannuation and leave loading)

About the NSW Crime Commission

The NSW Crime Commission's purpose is to disrupt, reduce and prevent the incidence of organised and other serious crime and to pursue confiscation of the proceeds of crime in New South Wales. The Operations Division is responsible for conducting criminal and financial investigations under the leadership of the Executive Director Operations. The Operations Division is also responsible for the Commission's Strategic Intelligence capability, the provision of specialist investigative support services and providing advice and recommendations to Government in relation to minimising the impact of serious and organised crime on the NSW community. The Technical Operations team forms part of the Operations Division and provides specialist technical and Digital Forensics capabilities designed to enhance operational activities and assist in achieving the Commission’s strategic and operational objectives.

About the Role

The Commission is seeking applications from technically skilled Digital Forensics specialists keen to be an integral part of a dynamic team facing the challenge of effectively tackling an increasingly complex criminal environment. The Digital Forensics Officer is responsible for promoting contemporary investigation and intelligence practice by forensically examining, analysing and providing reports in relation to digital exhibits gathered during investigations. The Digital Forensic Officer is also responsible for providing assistance to colleagues regarding Digital Forensics exhibits and with management of surveillance device and other equipment. The role is an integral part of a team of technical and digital forensic specialists involved in developing, enhancing and delivering a variety of specialist capabilities to support operational systems and technologies for the Commission.

If you have degree qualifications and/or relevant experience in a discipline related to Digital Forensics or technical operations in a law enforcement environment and can demonstrate high level technical surveillance and/or Digital Forensics skills, this may be the role for you.

Security Vetting

The recommended candidates must have a checkable background covering at least the last 10 years and be willing to participate in and secure appropriate security clearances by providing comprehensive details about their personal and financial interests and other relevant information about themselves, their families and their associates. You are encouraged to familiarise yourself with the information relating to the Commission's security vetting processes contained in this guidance document.

The Crime Commission Regulation 2022 under the Crime Commission Act 2012, stipulates that it is a condition of employment at the Commission that a member of staff obtain and maintain:

  1. a security clearance issued by the Commissioner, and
  2. a security clearance issued by the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency that the Commissioner determines is necessary for the position
