About the RoleWe have an opportunity for a journalist to join the ABC's digital breaking news team in our newsroom in Brisbane. Our breaking news journalists cover some of the biggest stories from across the world. With support from our senior digital specialists, you'll work as part of a team dedicated to providing news, context and live coverage around the major stories of the day for the ABC News website and app. If you're packed with energy and the ability to think on your feet, we'll train you to live blog, send breaking news app alerts and produce fast turnaround explainers on sometimes complex subjects. You'll have an opportunity to contribute ideas for stories and to improve the ways the ABC presents news on digital platforms. You will develop and maintain a strong awareness of emerging trends in digital and help to shape strategies for new products and services.The role will also involve:
- Communicating effectively with senior editorial staff and act as desk/shift lead as required, including acting as the final line of checking for content prior to publication and triaging issues when they arise.
- Taking responsibility for content selection and treatment, by managing audience-facing products like the ABC News front pages.
- Liaising with relevant ABC output and content areas to ensure effective cross media production.
- Generating stories that are relevant to a broad section of Australians and reflect the cultural, geographic and socio-economic diversity of the country.
About YouWe are seeking a
Digital Journalist with practical experience in journalism, and the ability to produce accurate and concise copy, engaging, digital-first content. You will have a solid understanding of the way news stories are presented online.
You will also have:- The ability to work as part of a team and meet regular production deadlines.
- Willing to work rotating shifts across a seven-day roster and to adapt to changing work practices as required.
