Job Description: Direct Service Officer

Position Overview: As a Direct Service Officer within our National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) organization, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality disability support services to individuals from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities. Your responsibilities will encompass rostering staff, facilitating communication with customers and their families, managing support staff, allocating appropriate support to customers, and overseeing shift documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

Rostering Staff: Coordinate and manage the rostering of support staff, ensuring adequate coverage for all shifts and considering staff availability and skillsets, while respecting the diverse backgrounds and needs of our customers.

Customer Communication: Maintain regular and culturally sensitive communication with customers and their families to understand their unique needs, address concerns, and provide updates on support services in a manner that respects cultural diversity.

Support Staff Management: Provide leadership and support to support staff, ensuring they are equipped to deliver culturally appropriate services. Offer guidance, training, and feedback to promote understanding and sensitivity towards the CALD community.

Allocation of Support: Assess the individual needs and cultural preferences of customers to allocate suitable support staff, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that respects cultural diversity and promotes positive outcomes.

Shift Documentation: Review and allocate shift notes, ensuring accurate documentation of support provided and any culturally relevant information for future reference or reporting purposes, while maintaining confidentiality and privacy.

Shift Sign-Off: Oversee the sign-off process for shifts, ensuring tasks are completed in accordance with individualized care plans and cultural considerations, while adhering to organizational policies and NDIS regulations.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the disability support sector and with experience working with CALD communities.
  • Strong cultural competence and sensitivity, with the ability to navigate diverse cultural backgrounds and languages effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust within the CALD community.
  • Knowledge of NDIS guidelines and regulations pertaining to disability support services.
  • Proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office and scheduling software.
