Role Purpose/Context:
The Director Advanced Systems will develop and delivera strategy for the growth and economic development for the AdvancedSystems and AUKUS Pillar 2 sectors within South Australia. AdvancedSystems includes AUKUS Pillar 2 priorities and BattlespaceAwareness (Electronic Warfare, Information Warfare, ArtificialIntelligence, Cyber and Intelligence, Surveillance andReconnaissance and Combat Systems) capabilities. Working as part of the Defence SA team, the Director will ensureeffective collaboration across state and federal governments andsector stakeholders to achieve economic development outcomes forthe state and defence industry.
The Director Advanced Systems will be responsible for: Identification and pursuit of industry and economicdevelopment opportunities for the State within the AdvancedSystems and AUKUS Pillar 2 sectors. Developing and implementing the Advanced Systems and AUKUSPillar 2 state strategy and improving business developmentprocesses across Electronic Warfare, Information Warfare,Artificial Intelligence, Cyber and Intelligence, Surveillanceand Reconnaissance and Combat Systems Understanding skills, training, infrastructure and policyrequirements in the named disciplines to support a sustainableadvanced defence systems and capabilities industry. This role will be key in implementing a strategic approach tomaximise the economic opportunities in this area by positioningSouth Australia as the best place to develop thesetechnologies.
Key Selection Criteria:
To be successful in this role, you will need to haveexperience working in Advanced Systems and Battlespace Awarenesswhich demonstrates: A good understanding of defence strategic and AdvancedSystems capabilities; Extensive experience working in the one or more of thelisted Advanced Systems and AUKUS Pillar 2 disciplines and thedefence sector which demonstrates: Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of relevanttechnologies; Detailed knowledge of global and national developmentsrelating to Advanced Systems and AUKUS Pillar 2technologies; Working knowledge of workforce demands and structures;and Proven leadership in the development and implementation ofbusiness initiatives relating to the defence sector. Experience in working with senior members of industry andthe Australian Defence Organisation to promote and developbusiness opportunities and creating and managing businessnetworks. Proven experience in developing and maintainingcollaborative, working relationships with stakeholders,including negotiation and mediation with industry, stategovernment agencies and other stakeholders. Experience and ability to identify and analyse complex,strategic issues and projects of state-wide impact, expressinggoals and plans and defining and delivering the approaches andcourses of action to achieve them. Experience at working independently and collaboratively,planning, programming and coordinating work, thinking clearlyand creatively and making decisions in an environmentcharacterised by a complex fast-moving sector and competingdeadlines. In addition to the above experience, to succeed in thisrole, you will need: A proven and natural leadership approach; you will have theability to lead, work collaboratively and build positiveworking relationships. The ability to work independently within broad priorityguidelines. The ability to work in a cross-cultural setting. To exhibit a high level of emotional intelligence andwell-developed political acumen. To be adaptable and flexible to meet organisationaldemands. Highly developed strategic management skills. Special Conditions
The successful applicant must have the ability toobtain a minimum NV1 security clearance and a willingness toundertake the process to obtain an NV2 / PV security clearance ifrequired. Therefore, all applicants must be Australian Citizens orbe eligible to apply for Australian Citizenship immediately.
This is a contract / term vacancy up to 36 months. The incumbent isrequired to enter into an annual performance agreement. Workoutside of normal hours will be required as will intrastate,interstate and possible overseas travel involving overnightabsences. A current Australian driver’s licence isrequired.
Essential Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience inthe listed technologies and / or a business discipline isrequired.
