We are seeking a dynamic individual with high level biostatistical and/or epidemiological skills and senior management experience to lead the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit in the Centre for Epidemiology and Evidence, Population and Public Health Division, NSW Ministry of Health.

This role will be located in St Leonards

Role Outline

The Director provides strategic leadership and expert advice for the development, conduct and review of complex biostatistical and epidemiological analysis to support the achievement of NSW Health’s objectives in relation to data driven approaches to improve population health outcomes. The Director manages and leads the staff of the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit to deliver a range of key statewide programs and services, including Analytics Assist and Health Statistics NSW.

You are required to submit a one page covering letter, including a short statement in response to the two targeted questions below:

  1. This position will oversee the management of large data collections potentially containing name identified health information. Please provide an example of where you have led a team implementing good data governance and data custodian practices for a range of projects using potentially identifying information. 
  2. Provide an example of when you led a team to deliver complex epidemiological or biostatistical analyses or reports, with a population health or health system focus. What challenges did you experience?

Note that these questions are a form of pre-screening by gathering additional information about candidates to determine their role suitability prior to the interview/assessment stage. It is a good way to address essential experience at a senior level that is otherwise not explicitly set out in the role description.
If candidates do not respond to the targeted questions, the Panel may decide not to consider their applications further.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of population health information, and health services data governance 
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent substantial management experience at senior level, and expert knowledge in Epidemiology and/or biostatistics.

This is an ongoing, Band 1, Health Service senior executive (PSSE) role. An attractive remuneration package within the range of $211, 222 to $235,325 per annum, will be negotiated with the successful applicant.
