Ballarat Grammar is one of regional Australia’s leading co-educational schools with a proud history dating back to 1877 and a flourishing community of over 1,800 students from 6 months to Year 12, including around 260 boarders.

The School’s Mount Rowan Farm Campus is set on 50 hectares of farmland and gardens at the foot of Mount Rowan. The school farm offers a range of agricultural and natural world learning opportunities for all year levels, especially Year 4 students, VCE and VET Agriculture students. The school farm has livestock, horticulture enterprises and a balance of pasture and crop on rotation. 

The newly acquired Grampians property spanning 224 hectares will be home to a residential complex with opportunity for environmental, outdoor, and agricultural education pursuits. It will be the base for extended adventures, farm stay, service opportunities and an opportunity for students to engage with the natural world in a sustained and a meaningful way.

The Director of Agriculture will be an experienced and passionate leader in agriculture, who can lead the development and implementation of the strategic plan for the School’s Agriculture program and oversee the operational requirements of the Mount Rowan Farm. The Director of Agriculture will lead the development of the agricultural program at the new Grampians Campus.  With a rapidly growing number of students studying agriculture, the Director of Agriculture will continue to grow the program through continuous improvement and the implementation of new technologies, opportunities, and partnerships with consultation with academic staff.

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

  • VIT approved teaching qualification and VIT registration (desirable) or Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or willingness to obtain).
  • Relevant qualification in Agriculture and/or Horticulture.
  • Extensive experience in the leadership of and operation of farms and/or related agricultural businesses.
  • Demonstrated capacity to lead and motivate a team of employees.
  • Be innovative with a strong interest in best practice and continuous improvement.
  • Ability to develop and foster a broad range of networks within the Agricultural industry.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to display compassion.
  • A proven ability to work effectively, constructively and collaboratively within a team.
  • Be highly motivated with excellent organisation and administrative skills.
