Job Description:

We are seeking an ongoing, full-time Director of Inclusive Education to lead the Inclusive Education team across the school (K-12). The role involves coaching teachers in classrooms to increase their skills in differentiating the curriculum and ensuring that the learning needs of students are met. The Director of Inclusive Education will work with students, teachers, and families to ensure an optimal level of learning and support for students with additional learning needs. This includes the provision of quality programs, interventions, and pathways for all students with additional learning needs (including those with gifted or talented profiles).

The Director of Inclusive Education will lead and develop specific School programs and policies to promote inclusion within a mainstream learning environment as well as offering evidence-based alternatives to identified students. The role will require the successful candidate to work closely with staff, families and other allied services. They will utilise expertise and knowledge to support and build the capacity of all members of the school community.

Key Responsibilities

These include but are not limited to:

  • Coach teachers to ensure that differentiated strategies cater for the specific learning needs of K-12 students across the full range of abilities.
  • Work with teachers to develop and use a range of informal and formal, diagnostic, formative and summative assessment strategies to assess the learning of students with additional needs. 
  • Oversee the academic program in collaboration with Strategic Leadership Team ensuring the learning engagement of all who require learning support and/or have special needs.
  • Lead the development of a shared vision and purpose for the Inclusive Education Team.
  • Keep up to date with contemporary educational developments in State and Federal legislation with particular emphasis on Inclusive Education.
  • Manage and communicate adjustments for students with learning needs and/or disabilities, as well as students with high intellectual potential.
  • Provide data for funding requirements, manages the IE budget and apply for grant funding.

Selection Criteria:

We are seeking an individual who demonstrates the ability to create a positive culture of challenge and support, enabling effective teaching that promotes enthusiastic and independent learners. Additionally, we are looking for someone who:

  • Has a clear understanding of legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992, Disability Standards for Education and Child Protection legislation.
  • Is fully conversant with the National Disability Insurance Agency and advocates for opportunities for families to access support under the National Disabilities Insurance Scheme.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with and through others to build a professional learning community that is focused on continuous improvement of teaching and learning.
  • Has the capacity to work with others to produce and implement clear evidence-based improvement plans and policies. 

Essential Requirements:

  • Teaching qualification and specialist qualifications or extensive experience in working with students with learning difficulties or additional needs.
  • Leadership experience in an Inclusive Education context. 
  • TRBWA registration.
  • Hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Proof of Right to Work in Australia.
