About Queensland State Archives
The Department of Treaty, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships, Communities and the Arts is responsible for progressing the Treaty process, delivering services for communities and the arts, and providing whole-of-government leadership and coordination in policy, program, and service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.
As the State’s archives and records management authority, QSA builds understanding and capability in the management of records and information within public authorities, including securing important digital records created by government for current and future generations.
As the custodian of the largest and most significant documentary heritage collection in Queensland, QSA manage, preserve and help Queenslanders access those records.  QSA is committed to creating places for all Queenslanders to share stories and histories. We strive to be an archive that supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander self-determination and embraces First Nations’ worldviews, knowledge and culture.
About the Role | Director, Policy and Assurance, Government Records
As the Director, Policy and Assurance, Government Records you will provide strategic leadership to teams responsible for advising on government recordkeeping, retention, and disposal of public records. You will work closely with the Queensland State Archivist to develop, coordinate, and implement QSA's recordkeeping program for public authorities in Queensland. With the new Public Records Act 2023 coming into effect, you will play a vital role in developing a new policy framework to ensure compliance with legislative requirements and best practices.

Your Key Responsibilities:  

  • Lead the implementation of the new Public Records Act 2023
  • Provide strategic advice on recordkeeping and information management
  • Build partnerships with the records and information management community
  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology for improved records management
  • Manage a multi-disciplinary team and ensure quality service delivery
  • Contribute to QSA's strategic agenda and foster a professional environment.  
About You
To excel in this role, you need technical expertise and strong stakeholder engagement skills. As part of the senior leadership team, you'll demonstrate strategic thinking, make insightful decisions, and inspire your team to deliver results. Key qualities include curiosity, knowledge of emerging technology, forward thinking, relationship building, and promoting inclusivity. Demonstrated experience in developing policy frameworks and managing programs and teams within a regulatory environment, is essential. While a tertiary qualification is not mandatory, experience in archives, information management, or regulatory policy is highly desirable.
